: 4.33 and 4.30 axle ratios?

Sorry about the IFS post, but I'm trying to help a friend who's getting ready to lock up his 4Runner. I'll spare you the details, but here's my questions:

Have any of you heard of a rear 8" diff with a 4.33 axle ratio? The third is out of a Taco (I think) as it already has an electric locker in it.

Have any of you heard of a 7.5" IFS diff with a 4.30 ratio? Not sure what it's from.

I checked 4Crawlr's site and the ORC axle/diff page, but I can't find a reference to these ratios anywhere. Assuming they are correct, is the difference in ratios too great to run together?

Thanks for any assistance.

Mark

THe IFS diff with 4.30s would be out of a pickup or 4runner with a 22RE and an auto tranny.

I was under the impression that all the taco's with electric lockers had 4.10's in them.

I dont suppose the donor truck is around? you could check to door code.

I have an 87 4 runner with the 22re and an auto and it has 430 gears. The electric locker in the back is from a 96.I don't know if it's 4.33 or 4.30 but it should be fine to use as they are close enough and when your wheeling there is lots of slop and give usually.I've only had the truck a couple of weeks so I have yet to go over everything.

You should be fine, I think rule of thumb on this board is a max difference of 1% between front/rear ring&pinion ratios.

There's been some previous discussion of this topic, try a search and see what you find.

I called and talked to Randy's ring and pinion and they sadi .04 difference is fine. However on their web site they said 1% for street driving or 2% for offroad.

the little bit of difference is fine. You won't even be able to notice it. I know that 4Runners with electric lockers in the rear come with 4.30s from the factory, and that was the only way they came, period, at least in 99 when I was looking at buying my 4runner...

My 86 "Project 4Runner" had a auto in it and it also had a 4:30 rear gear in the axle. I threw that out and now it's sitting on a FW 14 Bolt with discs on 35 boggers.......:p :D

4:30 & 4:33 will be fine RUN IT!!!!!! :D

When you say threw them out, do you mean threw them out? Asking 'cause I'm looking for a 4.30 3rd as a spare for my sammi.:D
