: SM465 @ the Wreckers

Hey PPB, haven't posted in a while but I was wondering, in the States how much are the yards looking to get for a SM465 4 spd.? I live in Canada but I would just like to know how big of a dent one could put in my wallet :(. I know all yards are different in price but ball park numbers would be great. $200-300USD sound about right?

I have also been looking at truck part outs on the Tri-Ad (like the autotrader), but they don't list prices and I haven't called yet because I don't have the wheels at the moment, I'll eventually call around but it just isn't necessary at the moment, however I think I would have better luck with someone parting out their truck privately.

I am currently looking at an 86' chev with a TH350 behind a carbed sbc 350, I always wanted a manual, so if it she pooches I'd like to swap a manual in for sure. I have been reading the swap how to on CK, but are there any other detailed articles out there like that one?

1 more thing...

Just taking a brief look over the swap article again, will I be able to use the existing transfer case that was mounted to the auto transmission? I don't know what is under the truck I am looking at, but in the article the author said it located a SM465/NP241 combo. If I locate a sm465, should I just grab both the tranny and tcase?

Thanks PB

Now, that isn't a bad deal, but shipping. OH GOD. That would be one heavy mofo, I'd rather spend less money in gas and drive down to get it LOL.

I haven't checked at the wreckers but I have an SM465 for sale for about $200 Canadian. It is attached to an NP205 that is available too. I live just east of Toronto if you are interested.

$200-$300 CDN? For that price it should come with a transfer case.

An 86 "should" have a NP208 behind the 350/350. Even if it is a 241, neither will fit behind a 465 unless you have: 1) a 465 with the long 32 spline output shaft 2) a 32 spline input gear for the transfer case and 3) the correct 465 to 208/241 adapter. In addition to the clutch crap (hydro? mechanical?) and pedals.

I'd say to keep looking and find a manual rig to start. Less money, time, headache. And stop asking us n00b questions :flipoff2:

the tranny weights 165 pounds-just shipped one

200.00 is the going rate and about another 150-250 for a good fixed yoke NP205.

The adapters with sleeve are worth about 75-100.00 alone

I see the combo for sale all the time from 400-600.00 (average)

I did find with a manual but it sold for a rediculous amount of $$$ :flipoff2:
But I appreciate the info you gave me, it helps a lot. I don't plan on performing such a swap just for the hell of it, I'd only do it if the auto fawked off, but thank you for the info. I know a manual rig would be much better to start with but they are few and far between in my neck of the woods.

I figured you give me some slack Dave for not posting any topics in a while, I guess not

Where do you shop?

Maybe its just the local thing? I priced a 2wd 465 at the nearby jy- $50 pulled for me.

Thats a good price. I would imagine 2wd trannys are more common. Can they be converted to 4wd easily?

bah, this truck search is hopeless. I am just getting pissed off. If I could import one I seriously would because I would save a rediculous amount of money. However I do not have the time or understanding on how to do that.

How far across the border are you ?

What is the most you're trying to spend on a truck ? (in US money :flipoff2: )

There are a few post on here about bringing trucks across the border maybe they will help you out..

With 600 H.P. it should go whereever you want it too :flipoff2:

Have you tried ebay and typed in what and where you want to find one ?

I can't believe you can't find a decent Chevy for that price.. There are a lot of them every where for $3500 or less.. You could also look on other forums, I see them listed all the time you just got to find one in your area..

The going rate for the trucks are $5000-$6000 "stock". Don't get me wrong I am looking at nicer trucks, trying to get one with low Km's on average they have 130-160k on them except for the one black one I was looking at with the new 305.

They seem to go for $~5000ish and then drop to $1000 and for $1500 that is a lot of body repair and a huge mess. Salt up here fucks everything up unfortunately. And I am in an even stickier situation with my insurance, I can't buy newer then a 90' or my rates go sky high (1 accident) and a pick up is cheaper to insure. So because I am fixed on older vehicles, I figured I would try and find a SFA.

It's a never ending battle that I am constantly losing
