I've been toying with an idea...
I've got a carb off a Harley Davidson motorcycle, off an 88 cu inch engine, which equals 1450 ccs I think. Anyway I wonder how it would work as a side draft carb on a stock 1300 cc Sammi motor ?
Of course I'd have to come up with some kind of modified intake manifold but it might just work.
Anybody out there ever tried anything like that ?

You do realize that your Sammi would then leak oil and vibrate really bad!

Hmmmmm I guess there would be no change then.

why not? give it a shot. if it's a mikuni, i don't think they have accelerator pumps, so in that case you would have lags and flat spots.

They don't leak oil, they simply mark their territory. Just ike a happy Rock Dog that jumps out of his rig, runs around the campsite and pees on every tree ! :D

For the effort of fabbing an intake, making a linkage, and tuning it, why not just go fuel injected and get better performance with much less headache:confused:

It's actually a 42 mm Keihin CV type carb and it does have an accelator pump.
I think I'll give it a go and see what happens. It'll be interesting to do somthing totally different from the norm. :smokin:

Go for it man. I knew a guy in the early 80's that put 8 round slide mikunis on his black V-8 Pontiac Trans Am, (yup, we called him Burt), and it ran great.
Built his own manifold and all. His BIG problem was the 8 throttle cables were way too stiff through the pedal and he eventually took them off. I ran 2 of the carbs on my snowmobile for years. Good luck.

I've got dual side draft two barrels on my rotary and it looks really cool. I would go for it.

I've seen the manafolds for dual carbs but be prepaired to shell out some coin for one!!

fabbing side draft manifolds for an inline engine is childsplay.

I've debated this many times with Subaru guys. Just comes down to the old carb mentality. They know carbs, they love carbs, and dont want to learn anything about that electronified fuel injectimucation system. It's not easier for them to swap in EFI.

Here's a guy who just put on dual side draft carbs. Maybe he can shed some light on building the intake manifold. http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,31079.0.html

as for being different, I can say go for it. I just adapted a 1 barrel carter off a 75 f150 with a 300 I6 to my 1.3 and it works great, just made my own adapter and it bolted right on :)
