got an 04.5 CTD, I straight piped the exhaust, but have been told that you actually loose horsepower by doing this. Am I better off going with a muffler by someone like Magnaflow? I also run edge juice w/attitude, and an intake. So what the best way to go on exhaust on this tow rig. thanks guys.

From what I have read; diesel's do not need exhaust backpressure. The turbo negates the scaveging effect of a smaller exhaust pipe. My truck is straight piped too, did not notice a difference after I took the muffler off.

straight pipe it, even if you were to lose a few hp, which I doubt, the sound of a straight-piped ctd more than makes up for it.

The guy from Predator Performance doesn't know shit. You are doing nothing but good things by straight piping it (unless you don't like the noise!). On a diesel exhaust the whole point is to get the heat out. You do not need backpressure like on a gas motor. So the bigger and freer flowing, the better. Why do you think the diesel-puller and drag guys just have a pipe straight out the hood? It gets rid of all that excess heat faster!

You can lose some power on a stock truck. Jannetty racing did some dyno runs on a truck stock, with exhaust and intake, and then with a boost fooling box. The truck with just the exhaust and intake actually lost power because it was defueling due to an over boost condition created by opening the motor up some. As long as you have a box that fools the ECM than you are good.

i felt as if i lost a little power down low, but it really woke up the top end. i really dont think you lose more than a few HP and the chip makes up for that 100 times. plus it sounds great and who needs that much power anyhow:smokin:
