03-28-2002, 09:32 AM
that did not include the box, but it did include the labor to drill and tap it. it does include all the lines, fittings and hardware, all i have to do is weld a couple of beads on the axle housing and tierod and do the plumbing. call rockstomper and get one! scott is a super nice guy!:D

The tires were actually straight in that picture. You just have to remember that I drive a cruiser no silly little mini.. :flipoff2:
:D
So my system is more like DRM's is going to be. Saginaw instead of the little toy box...

okay, heres setting myself up for public humiliation with a bonehead question!!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

which fitting tapped into my steering box goes to which fitting on the ram??(how do the hoses run?)

ignorance is bliss:flipoff2:

It will depend, hook it up, jack up the front tires, start the truck, top off the steering box until it is full (quite a bit of fluid actually) then try to turn. If the wheels will not turn fairly easily, pull the lines and swap them....
Should be good to go. It will take a while to bleed properly.
Make sure that the lines go straight up...
If they are horizontal it will take a lot longer to get the air out..

i havent driven a truck with it--YET! but if youve tried steering with big tires and a locker up front on something like hells revenge in moab or the granite slabs in the rubicon youll understand. not to mention getting tires wedged in obstacles.

and quit making fun of my clogs fawkerz..:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Bogger, better watch that return line when you go full lock to the right. It'll be close to the tire thread. When you weld the mount onto the tierod make sure the tierod is rolled back as far as the play in the TRE'S will let it rotate, otherwise the weight of the ram and mount will make it heavy to tha back side and rotate the tierod down. This isn't an issue if you don't have any play in the TRE's and they're flush (sit flat) on the steering arms. Otherwise when the cylinder extends it may make contact with the spring plate.

My 2cents.
Tom

Curious.....do you use your hydro to put ever more force out at the tire......or just to make steering easier?

My steering did not really get any "easier". What it allows me to do is turn whenever I want to. In situations where my old saginaw box would have given up I can still turn. Simple..
As for moving rocks out of the way I was playing around with a bunch of chunks of Caliche that were out by my house. Not something I would usually do (mostly because I would not have thought of it.) But it was kinda neat. Besides, what is wrong with moving rocks out of the way??? The Hydro WILL put more force out at the tire.. That is the point.

No I am not kidding,.
What is wrong with going out and pushing some boulders around a construction area with the tire? If the boulders are too big then the cruiser moves... I thought about it. Did it, it was interesting.
WHere is the problem? I might be dense here.

easy to btrak a knuckle, tie rod end tie rod, drag link and or ends, steering arms, this being on the trail, not in an open area. as far as the rig just moving, maybe but not always. I can see a ton of damage from these being used improperly:eek:

Donno about that. My knuckle did not break. I can't believe that the OTT arms will ever break. I guess I could shear the studs.. 5/8's rod ends should be okay all of the stresses are push pull. The ram is connected to the draglink makes it really hard to bend. Plus the ram is mounted on the draglink closer to the drivers steering arm. Only got a foot or footand a half to bend there. On the other side I would have to bend the draglink and the tierod at the same time.
By installing a ram you are really strengthening the system. If It breaks I wil be the first to let everyone know..

I saw a cruza knuckle housing crack in half due to a Rock Ram. Now thats a LONG ride home.

I really don't think you want to use a hydro setup in this manner.
As Seabass mention, you're very likely gonna pop a tie rod end apart,
shear studs, or crack a knuckle. I have not used one myself, but
have talked to others with such systems. I thin kyou need to use
the new power with some discretion.

What's with the foot fetish Paul? You're worse than a woman showing off all her shoes for the camera!:flipoff2:
I'll have to check out your system at the Jambo to see how it works.
