is a scout D44 rear axle a good swap or should i stick to the nine inch ?
ive got a cut down nine inch rear but still need gears and a shaft ,so this leads me too ! i also have a scout D44 rear that would be the right size as well ,just wondering if the scout axle would be strong enough ?

itS goin into an explorer with an Eb width front 44 :smokin:

My vote is for the 9"

The 44 is plenty strong but always go a little overkill. Just like gears or tires. Go bigger and you wont be doing it again later.

Sell the scout rear and help pay for the gearing of the 9"
Is this a 31 spline 9" or a 28???????

Cause if its a 28 I would go 44 :D

either axle will work fine I would say, the 44 has the advantage of a slightly higher pinion, the 9 inch has more aftermarket stuff available for it. if your d44 gears are right I would use it, however if you plan to go bigger later and are looking at lockers it might be an idea to go with the nine straight off to avoid too much doing it twice.
