Technically ford did not produce any '98 model PSD's so we'll start there based on body style. The 99+ will look like a SD truck the 94-97 will look like the F150 & bronco of the era. There were some produced in late '98 that are '99 model years.

Does the coolant get warm to the touch?

If it begins to bubble very rapidly after starting then I'd say you have a headgasket problem.

check the forums @ www.superdutydiesel.com or www.thedieselgarage.com for some guys a bit more knowledgeable than I.

first off thanks for the input w thought head gasket problem but the is no antifreeze in the oil or vice versa, I know it a power stroke turbo 7.3 ford started putting them in ambulances in 94 1/2. its a conversion van by the way. I was also told it may be a throttle body leak i am going to start tearing the top off next week.
