: tech support for the TTC 2002
the frog 03-28-2002, 11:13 AM hye all,
i still do'nt know if i'm gonna be elected for the TTC 2002, but because shipping from Israel to California takes at least 40 days, i must make all the preparations as if i'm allready in.
so, i was thinking to myself that i have to go with one of two options:
a) bring all the stuff with me, meaning - all the tools like welder, jack, compressor, generator, air tools, wrenches etc.etc., and ofcourse all the necessary spare parts like alternators, starters, u-joints, axleshafts, fuel pumps, electric spares, transmission, etc.
b) find a local shop which can handle such a support by bringing to Hollister all the tools & spares.
we do'nt need any help doing the work, just the equipment and spare parts handy.
i can give - if necessary - a list of tools & spare parts.
i think option "b" is a very good idea, and i'd like to hear if any of you can or know of a shop that can give that kind of support and then maybe we'll be able to work some kind of a deal here.
thanks a lot for your help

I'll extend the same offer to you as to Abba, if you make it, I'll be there for support. The rig has OBA, I've got plenty of tools, I can arrange for rental of a generator/welder as well. I've been to Hollister enough to know the trails. You pay for  and I'm there.

welndmn 03-28-2002, 11:38 AM some buddies of mine might be up to the task, they run a mobile fab shop called Are you serious off-road, I will find his e-mail
ryeguy 03-28-2002, 12:03 PM Thanks for the offer, Joe. I'm hoping that applies to other Pirate4x4 TTC hopefuls. :-)
If I make it in, we'll be bringing a lot of stuff down on the trailer, too. Tools will help, but I doubt that we share many spare parts.

the frog 03-29-2002, 10:45 AM hey there Joe,
thanks a lot for the quick & positive response, i REALLY appriciate it.
i think now i'll just wait for a few more days untill i get the results and if i'm in, i'll give you a call/e-mail.
by the way, i gave my new Chevy 454 it's first start today. believe it or not, it started humming almost on the first push of the starter.
it is a 4 bolts main caps NEW marine block bored 0.030 over, steel crank, TRW pistons(10:1 compression), Edelbrock aluminum rectangular port heads, Edelbrock EFI system, etc, and as far as i can tell it should give 500 horses and 550 ft/lb of torque.
thanks again

Try contacting Toby Lavender (831-899-2144). He has a shop in Seaside (~1/2 hour from Hollister) and he hopes to be competeing at TTC (#33 '53 jeep).

the whole process, from loading in Israel to unloading in L.A. or San Francisco, takes about 45 days.
so, if i get the o.k. on April 4th or 5th, i'll have only 10 days to make all the arrangements! very difficult situation, and frankly speaking, it's quite odd that Four Wheeler allows foreign entries but does not allow them sufficient time to get to Hollister on time.
oh well, never promised myself a rose garden....:D :rasta: :D

Yeah, I can't imagine it'll be cheap. Maybe you could sell it here when your done, with the money you save might be able to build a new rig.

it was EXACTLY my tought, untill i found out that inorder to ship the rig out of the country(any country, in fact), i have to fill a CARNE form which is an international form intended to allow certain goods like sports vehicles out of the country for shows and events but forces the owner to bring it back. the owner must also sign a monetary guaranty in order to make sure he does'nt sell the vehicle like you suggested and like i thought...............
anyways, it aint gonna be cheap, and i'm still trying as hard as i can to get sponsors. wish me luck - i need it! );)
oh and another thing - do'nt worry about the  there will be plenty of that:beer:
and i do'nt -ofcourse- expect you to give the needed support foe  !!! but as we said, we'll discuss that when the time comes.
frog:smokin:
Big Rich 03-29-2002, 02:08 PM Try and pre sell the vehicle and ship to the new owner, under the conditions that you'll deliver after the competition. There's got to be a way to ship out of country.
