How do you feel about the d70 compared to a 14bolt? Can you do a disc conversion and does it hang much lower?

The D70 and the D60 use the same diff cover. The D70 has 35 spline axleshafts same diameter as the 14 bolt. The D70 can be moderatly ground on the houseing to equal the D60 clearance without grinding on the cover plate. Disc brakes are available for the D70. LIke all of them grinding can be taken to the extreme. :D

I equate the D70 to a 14 bolt in a D60 housing. But that's my uneducated conclusion based on 6 months of axle shopping.

I thought 35 spline was 1 1/2" and 14 bolt 30 spline were 1 9/16" ??

From what i gather, the d70 has a 10.50 ring gear like the 14bolt. The axle shafts are both 1.5" but d70's are 35 spline and 14 bolts are 30. The gear ratios selection is better for the d70 and so is the locker selection. The one i'm looking at may be a dually rear-end. Is this worth a six hour drive or should i look local?

So with minor grinding can I get a D70 to have the clearance of a Dana60?

14 bolt is 1.5" +/- a pubic hair. ;)

so i would assume the d 70 to be stronger than the 14 bolt by just a c-hair also, yes?

i had wanted a rear 70 so that i could stay with dana axles, but they are just not as common. 14 bolts are a dime a dozen and dirt cheap. i got my first one for $50,picked up a whole 2wd parts truck for $50 that also donated a longtail th350,plus lotsa good body partf for my friend.am supposed to pick up a 3rd one whenever i get off my lazy ass and do it for aother $50. you dont often see 70s that cheap. i gotta stretch my meager dollars as far as possible,so i could think of a reason ot to use the 14 bolt over the 70. theyre pretty compareable in strength.

front is a different story(i do have a 70 to put up front)

i dont think id drive 6 hrs to look at a dualy 70 axle. scout aroud and i can gaurantee youll find a 14 bolt for $150 or less in a reasonable amt of time.

mossberg, wassup with the simplified sig and the bunny pic? how are your 70s hldig up?

Both are cool, but I really like how 14 bolts are user friendly, adjusters instead of shimming the carrier, xtra pinion bearing, detroit for $300...Plus they can be found CHEAP... All day long at P+P for under $100...There are about 2 dozen out at Santa Paula...Give me a call, I'll help ya pull one...
