After hearing horror stories about efi parts burnin' out, i have decided to do some reasearch. That is where you guys come in.
I swapped in 1.3 efi in my 88.5 samurai last summer. It was a fairly simple swap of wires to wires. I just pulled out the whole wiring harness, and swapped in the new one. I am so glad that I did the swap.
That being said, I don't want to have to spend $400 for a burnt out coil or a siezed distributer at the local suzuki dealer.
EFI 1.3L engines are becoming harder and harder to find, but there are still a bunch of 1.6 8v's kicking around. (pun intended)
YES I HAVE SEARCHED, and i checked www.suzukiinfo.com, but i did not see anything about what parts are the same, and which are different.
What I know now...
- Fuel pump relays and main ignition relays are the same. I went to the wrecker, grabbed a few, swapped them in, work just fine.
-TBI units do work for both, but the 1.6 needs a slight adaption to make it work.
-Fuel injector is the same for both.
So what other parts will work for both 1.3 EFI and 8v 1.6 EFI ?
Thanks, this info will be great for everyone.

I forgot to mention that if you can find a way to mount the 1.6 tank, the fuel pump will provide the same psi as the 1.3 efi pump.
I had my 1.3 in tank pump kick the bucket this summer. I just replaced it with a 1.6 in tank pump. 2 of the holes did not line up, but that did not stop me. Worked fine since.

Like what? I am about to swap some 1600 EFI in.

This is easier than mixing the two harnesses?
spend $400 for a burnt out coil
Is this an example, or do you have to have a special coil?

Can you be more specific? I am using the 1600 EFI, manifold, and perhaps even the head.
-Fuel injector is the same for both.
Do you know if it is available after-market? Is it std size and such, so another of the same characteristics might work?

Your MegaSquirt controller, if you choose to go that way! :)

Yes, good idea!
Be nice to also hear from folks who have done the GM-type swap.

I'll start slow...
If you are swapping engines (1.3 to a 1.6), splitting both harnesses is the way to go. If you are swapping a 1.3 carb to 1.3 efi swapping harnesses is the way to go. Just make sure you get EVERYTHING. Underdash, and engine harness, and dash.
The fuel injectors are the same on 1.3 and 1.6 8v engines. I think you can buy aftermarket, or just grab one from a wrecker.
Throttle bodies work from both, but you have to modify the lower portion on the 1.6 to fit the 1.3 intake. Not sure how as i have not done it.
The stock coil is about $400. Efi was only available in Canada for one year. I am not sure about other specific efi parts like dizzy's and ignition parts. I also do not know what is swappable and what is not.

The entire 1.6 8 valve intake manifold will bolt up to your 1.3 head.

The EFI models were here 1990, 1991 and 1992.
I always thought the 1.6 injector had a higher lb/hr fuel rate than the 1.3:confused:
You'd be insane to spend $400.00 on a stock coil-I got an MSD for $39.00 at Lordco.
The *real* fawker to try and get is the Ignitor.

And I believe the entire head will swap. Both have the same volume in the combustion chamber, yielding the same CR. They handle the difference between the 1300 and 1600 displacement in the pistons to make this possible.
Has anyone added bungs to the 1300 head (other than the supercharger guy) in order to use MPI?
I s'pose you could use the TB for the TPS and butterfly and stuff. If ya weren't interested in equal-length longer runners, etc.
