I have found 1.5 diesel engine and transmission pretty cheap and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about them and how big of a job it would be to switch the engine and transmission

There are a number of different diesel engines out there. I'd guess folks would need to know the brand and maybe year model and if it is turbo or whatever.

I know there is a dedicated forum at Zuwharrie.com for diesels in Sammis. Maybe here too, I dunno. Good luck. I know that the noramally asipirated 1600 VW is considered less desirable than the 1.9 because it is more than a little sluggish in a Sammi.

I have a F250 diesel, but I wish i had bought a Toyota disel pickup when they were offering them, or a VW Rabbit pickup diesel. In other words I'd like to have a lil car powered by diesel. Something that gets better mileage thana Sammi. Maybe a Metro with a diesel. :-)

You can use the 1.5 but it has no more power than the stock Samurai motor. You want to look for a VW 1.6na, 1.6td or 1.9td. You won't need the VW tranny as you use the Samurai, Tracker or Toyota trannies with ACME's kit.
I have the 1.9td in mine and it is far better than my old 16v swap.
