I'm new to the ton axles. I want disc on the rear but not sure what is the best set-up. I was told the axle I have is 78-79 Ford. I've seen conversion kits for $450-$500 range that includes rotors,el-dorado calipers for e-brake,brackets and bolts. Is there another option that might be cheaper if I use a line lock for the e-brake? What are some sources for these brackets/kits? Thanks for the help...

there are companies that sell just the brackets for like 60 to 70 bucks and you supply your own chev half or three quarter ton calipers and rotors . check ebay or the vendor section.

Checked the vendor section--& ebay with complete kits or anyone able to tell me exactly what parts from what years needed... greatlakeoffroad has brackets, but no other parts---u know how most of this stuff is...someone prolly sells entire kit for a few bucks more than it cost in parts store but none of the hassle-- Go to your local Advance Auto and ask the 15 year old behind the counter for this kind of stuff:eek:

i used '73 chevy 3/4 ton front brake parts (rotors and calipars). im using a line lock for the e-brake, and i made my own brackets out of 1/4" plate. i now that you can buy brackets that will work if you dont want to make your own. the only thing i didnt like about the setup was that i had to pound my lug studs aout and mount the rotor on the inner side of the hub.

I got brackets from great lakes offroad on ebay and they didn't quete work out right but I modded them to fit right. I'm not sure it it is that my axle wasn't stock under the F250 I got it from or what. I was able to mount the 75 Chevy 2500 brake rotors on the front of my hubs (where the brake drum would go) and the calipers for the Chevy bolted to the brackets fine. I planned on running a line lock too for e-brake, and I figure I might as well run it to the front brakes like a normal line lock would be.
