: gooseneck and a lifted truck
MattyB4x4 01-14-2006, 05:01 PM Hey guys, not my problem because I drive a suburban, but was just wondering what is the largest lift on a tow rig that a 5th wheel or goose neck can be towed?
My dad had a Chevy 2500hd 6inches on 35's and he couldnt pull a 5th wheel...too tall.
I've just noticed some lifted tow rigs and was just curious. Also...anyone w/ pics of a lifted truck/goose neck combo?
djgaston 01-14-2006, 10:31 PM I have a 4.5 inch lift on my CTD with 37 inch tires and I pull a 36 foot dual tandem flatbed gooseneck without any trouble. The neck on the trailer is taller than normal so that helps a lot.
sarvermr 01-15-2006, 12:00 PM 4" lift and 35's.

MattyB4x4 01-15-2006, 01:55 PM did you get that made w/ a taller neck or is that just the brand style.
nice set ups you guys got there.
djgaston 01-15-2006, 04:28 PM I bought it used so I am not sure who the manufacturer is (the original title was lost, so it's registered as a home-built) but the neck is 69 inches off the ground. Most goosenecks are either 48 or 54, standard.
welndmn 01-16-2006, 02:33 PM depends on the trailer and truck.
My 3 horse gooseneck trailer and a stock King ranch F350 4x4. comes real close to the bottom of the overhang or the trailer.
Going over whoops means someone watches the bed to it does not make contact.
The trailer already tilts forward and droping the goose any lower to clear the bed rails means unhappy livestock.
HalfFastFord 01-17-2006, 10:36 PM Well just got home from towing with mine and it's fine. 6.5" lift on 35's on an 04 CC SDuty. Had plenty of rail clearance even in those annoying trailer dragging stations. Mine is a Kaufman though, not sure if it makes a difference. I can walk under my neck setup without ducking.
GRMhick 01-17-2006, 10:50 PM Drive on any southern california freeeway and you will see a f-250 with an 8" lift, 38" tires, towing a tow hauler, with a spring over, and and some with lift springs on the trailer

:usa:
Matty Moe 01-24-2006, 11:39 PM Believe it or not, alot of guys around here flip the axles or do a shackle lift on their trailers so they can tow with lifted rigs!

Not kidding at all. They are very common. Sometimes fun to watch when it gets windy.
But at least the F-250 has 8 King Shocks on it.
VerticalTRX 01-25-2006, 02:32 PM I only have 2.5" of lift and 33's on my F-250 and the bedsides contact the neck of my gooseneck on occasion. Its a fairly tall neck too, I'd say at least 60" above ground. Now granted I'm taking the trailer over terrain that most tow rigs would never see, but it still bothers me. Makes me wish I had a taller neck on the trailer. This is also why my tow rig is only on 2.5" of lift and 33's.:( For normal trailering I probably could have gotten by with 4" of lift and 36's however.

WOW...seems like if you'd go to that length...you'd just have a custom trailer with a taller neck build...some people...
shit, ditch 2 shocks and you'd practically take car of that haha
