I've priced new 28' goosenecks until I' blue in the face and everything is running around $5800-6000. I'm just wanting something for two rigs, but everyone is only offering the larger dual tandem trailers. I had plans on building one with 14k or 10.4k axles (two single 7ks, or two single 5.2k) and have priced materials to build for around $2800 without paint and without wiring/lights. I've got my 40x60 shop i can build in, with all the equipment.
Anyone tackled building a gooseneck themselves before? Is it worth the $3000 or so i'll save, or should I keep shopping and hoping for something in the $4000 range? I can't find anything new around here. What are the new prices in other areas for a 28'?
thanks.

Conn,
One of my buddies just got a 32 foot open deck kaufman for $4500 straight from Kaufmann. Its is real well made and they were great to deal with. It has two-7k axles.
Check them out @ http://www.kaufmantrailers.com/
All of the hotshotters in this area use Kaufmanns.
good luck,

A wheelin' buddy built my 30 ft. GN on two 7K torsion axles. Nice low deck, diamond plate fenders I can drive on if I had to, all sealed lights, two jacks on a common crank, ramp storage under rear, etc. Turned out so nice, he built himself one. He has his own shop up near the Badlands. I could see if he'd build another if you're interested.

I planned on building mine and even bought plans online. Then I found a place in AZ that had a brand new 25' 14k gooseneck for $2800 so neadless to say I bought that instead. But like you, local to me the trailers are $5k plus...

Have you checked at this place
http://gatormade.com/
this is there ebay store
http://stores.ebay.com/Gator-Tuff-Parts
I bought one from them around 6 months ago for in the $4000 range.
I work for a fab shop and we priced building me one and it was going to be around $2k in parts not including steel, wiring, wood, paint, and welding wire&gases. I would have saved some money ($800) but what is your labor worth and how much are you going to have to pay a buddy to help you while building.

There was a light 35' triple axle localy for $2000.I almost bought it but it wasn't heavy enough for me.It's located in NE. midplainsequipment.com I found just what I want but I don't want to know what it cost. It's a 36'-40' triple axle with duals.Big enough to haul 2 1/2 full sized trucks or 3 jeeps.

BUILD IT YOURSELF
I don't care how cheap you find one to buy, if it is cheap is will lack i quality.
If you have the time/knowledge/$$ I would build it yourself hands down.
I just finished a 20' deckover bumper pull 14K with 2 7K torsions and I love it for one main reason, It is built exactly how I want.
Will be selling it this spring to build a 30' goose.

Call these guys. Ask for Bernstein Hurst. If you buy direct from them, with cash in hand, the savings is substantial.
I bought my gooseneck from them last year as have many of my wheeling buddies. Mine is a 20' goose, low boy with fenders, nice wheels, dual 6k axles, spare tire, built to my specs, for under $2200. The same trailer from thier dealers (exact same trailer, they built, just sold by one of their distributors) was $3400 here in Asheville.
$1200 was well worth the 2 hour drive to pick it up in Tenn.
I was prepared to build my own gooseneck, but I was only going to save about $200 doing it myself.
