Yes I know that you guys are probably very sick of these questions but I am going to ask anyway with hopes someone will be able to help. I have the opportunity to pick up an 86 Toyota extended Cab 4x4 for $1000.CDN. I think this is a good deal. even tho i like the looks of 79-83 Toys better. But my problem is I hate IFS. I have lots of spare parts for 79-83 years. What is actually involved in and needs to be done to perform an SAS. I have a front end complete from an 82 and 83 and could probably get one from an 84 if I had to. I am a welder by trade so that is not an issue. I have the use of a machine shop so if something has to be made no problem there also. What would I need to buy . If you give me a cost in USD I will convert. Thanks for any info and reading my long winded speach.

its actually easy if you can weld. torch off and unbolt everything associated with the ifs suspension. clean up the frame rails. then all you need to do is get a crossover steering setup(you use the ifs steering box) and weld on the hangers for the springs. depending on your front springs you ll get different measurements for the location of the shackle hanger...

www.allprooffroad.com sells jigs for mounting the shackle thru the frame as stock for use with 48" springs, to make it super simple...

oh yeah, and do a search:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Sounds like you have the skills, and tools. You need to install a front spring hanger and shackle hanger as well, then it's just like a solid axle rig. Get high steering, etc. etc.

Search around and lots of questions will get answered.

Man, I love the brutallity around here!:flipoff2:

Cross over steering will work on your truck. Vendors like AllPro sell kits or you can fab up your own. You will need to use this with a SAS.

hey-

high x-over steering replaces the stock steering arms and tierods to move the tierods over the top of the springs. the tierods are almost completely out of harms way. additional benifits include eliminating bumpsteer with larger tires.

here's a link to both heavy duty x-over steering components and a super quality spring hanger for the SAS conversion.
