: amct400 and d300
sammeeks351 01-16-2006, 08:24 PM hows your drive shaft to pan clearance??? much like it was with the other transfercase???
i am mounting a novak adapter with a d300! also changeing the output shaft!
i have the same setup but using an AA adapter and AA tranny tailshaft. i don't have the TC bolted to the tranny yet but i am like you and hope it works.
bigblackblur 01-16-2006, 08:49 PM yeah I'm doing the same thing, just dont have my adapter still deciding on which to buy. Which ones cheaper?
sammeeks351 01-17-2006, 06:46 AM i used novak cus of the clocking ability! and they use a "new" output shaft and not a spud shaft!!!
aa quoted me $495
novak was 449.52 shipped to my door..which arrived in 2 days:D :smokin:
78-FSJ 01-17-2006, 08:31 AM i've got a wide track 78 cherokee w/ 401/th400/d300 to front d44 w/ a 2"" front driveshaft and the clearance is 1" to the tranny pan.
dave
i said tranny:D
rustywagoneersdotcom 01-17-2006, 10:08 AM if the q-trac you pulled off the TH400 had a low-range on the back of it... it is the same spline as the tranny (huh-huh) output...
with a plate, and flipping the planetary housing backward... you can add a 2.67 to 1 on the back of the TH 400... but then you have to custom make the plate and spud between the box and the next t-case, plus you will have to brace the planetary housing.. but i have one a little better than half done.. i will be going divorced t-case, simply due to the availability (at my house) of divorced 205's...
sammeeks351 01-18-2006, 07:27 AM thanks 78fsj! about the same as it would with a quadratrac then! besides i am spring over and a bit of lift so i should have plenty of clearance!!!
btw do you have a measurement on your drivesahfts by chance???
i have a d60 front and mine should be 2"shorter,front dont bother me as much..
i have 3 of them laying around...now the rear seems to be 4-5" longer!!! and i have a 14 bolt back there as well...again should be a bit shorter than yours!
78-FSJ 01-19-2006, 08:43 AM i've got about 7" of lift and clearance is not an issue.
it's snowing now, but when it clears up i'll measure my driveshafts.
i was heading the same way on my build as you went ie.d60/14bolt/39's, but i decided to put the 1 ton stuff on my yj. i've got a j20 rear d60 and the front 8 lug outers i'm gonna put on my cherokee now.i might use it as my tow rig.
dave
frontporchfab 01-19-2006, 08:50 AM I've got the same setup with the Novak adaptor and clocked D300. The driveshaft clears, but not by much. Also, my front DS length is 39.5" if that helps.
Edit: This is in a CJ7, I just noticed you were talking about a cherokee
Hard Rock Holley 01-19-2006, 08:55 AM Why not install a 727 and bolt the 300 to it?
sammeeks351 01-19-2006, 03:40 PM cus of shaft clearance! i see alot of people haveing to use a pillow block 2 piece shaft around the tf727..and i dont have parts readily available(flexplate, kickdown linkage,etc.etc)...since i have 3 amc t400 laying around!and the front shaft would be 4-5" shorter...727 is much shorter than a t400i think i can make it with a stock driveshaft! lol i am holding my breath, fingerscrossed!!!
sammeeks351 01-21-2006, 11:39 AM after some careful measureing i found out my front shaft is prefect! and the rear shaft is gonna be 1"longer...so i am gonna have to get it all in there and see how the rear fits, before i know for sure!!
RampageFSJ 01-21-2006, 12:00 PM if the q-trac you pulled off the TH400 had a low-range on the back of it... it is the same spline as the tranny (huh-huh) output...

Slight thread hijack, but could you please explain, in detail, what you just stated? From what I understand, you`re saying that you can get a doubler out of that low range unit? Could you PM me with all of the info that you have to do that on your rig? I`m also going to try to put in a divorced 205 (after I use the Q trac for a while), and I have 2 of these T cases with low range to work with.
sammeeks351 01-22-2006, 07:49 AM yeah i have thought of trying this but thats as far as i got:laughing:
what he's saying is use the low range unit as a spliter much like a klunev!
then adapt a tcase of your chice to it!
lol btw he has a typo they are 2.57!
rustywagoneersdotcom 01-22-2006, 11:48 AM ok, since thread starter is cool with it i will post a little here too...
and yes, you be correct, 2.57, not 2.67... my bad... anyhooo... a gearset is a gearset is a gearset.... planetary included, and the ratio is the same whichever way it turns, as long as the same elements are doing the same jobs... (only change might be thrust, and as long as the thrust absorbing memebers are identical at both ends, then no biggie). the planetary box on the back of a QT is nearly self contained. if you flipped it backward, and made it self contained, you can bolt it (with an adapter) to the TH400 QT trans, because the splines of the trans output and the planetary input are the same. you have to make a plate to mimic the front of the t-case (with bearing) and add a seal, as well as a stub shaft and yoke for the output (if you are going with a divorced t-case, like i am)... however, this project is lower on the list because the current rig has a D20 cut down to be just a splitter, ahead of another divorced 205.. when that goes, the QT splitter moves back up the list, but i will try to get some pics rounded up... peace Dave
78-FSJ 01-23-2006, 06:34 AM i dont know if you still need the measurements, but front is 26" rear is 42 1/2".
dave
sammeeks351 01-23-2006, 08:04 PM awesome dude!;)
i just went and measured my shafts and all of my shafts will work:smokin:
cant wait to get her running now! maybe in time to head to las cruces for teh chile challenge!
btw anyone see a green and black cherokee in OFFROAD mag last month(had red super duty on the cover)??? thats me rig before i chopped the top off:laughing:
RampageFSJ 01-26-2006, 02:28 PM Any pic updates on the Q trac doubler?
rustywagoneersdotcom 01-26-2006, 08:35 PM sorry, no pics yet.. i am stupid busy with mechanical and non-mechanical stuff from real-life right now... (some would say i am just stupid....)
stay tuned... i'll be back!
sammeeks351 02-01-2006, 07:35 PM welp fellas i got it running! i used the middle hole on the novak adapter and front shaft clears barely! i might try and drop it to the last clocking hole to see if it clears better!!! but this evening it moved under its own power!
lol did a burnout in the dirt too:laughing:
oh btw i swapped yokes front to rear,so i can run a cv shaft on the front...cus this is in a fullsize cherokee,no need for cv on the rear!
RampageFSJ 02-04-2006, 10:47 AM Good job, and good luck. Now, can we see some pics rusty:p ?
rustywagoneersdotcom 02-04-2006, 06:10 PM i will, honest, it is just about the last thing on my plate right now, but if the weather gets crappy enough that i cannot work on the comanchaneer, i will be working in the garage, and if i get the next round of ebay crap cleaned, then the q-box will come off the floor and i will clean it and get some pics...
rustywagoneersdotcom 02-04-2006, 06:12 PM of coiurse, if someone else would like to pay the mortgage and the child suppoirt for me, then i suppose i could spend more time on the less important projects.... but until then, i gotta keep on the treadmill here, cuz not paying is not an option...
RampageFSJ 02-04-2006, 07:05 PM Allright, power to ya. I was just checkin.
