I found a set of D70s but theyre outta a 72 Dodge W300 truck so theyre drums front and rear... I was wondering how hard theyd be to change over to disc brakes, and if it would be more cost effiecient to just buy d60s with disc brakes? thanks

i/m working on the same thing. mine have the big 6 lug pattern so i am making a few changes. on the rear i am using chevy 14b wheelhubs and having my axles redrilled to fi the bolt pattern, then rotors are 25 or so at the parts store, caliper are 12, stud are 2 a piece, brackets for a 14b are 60 a pair. on the front, i am using 14b hubs also with an adapter ro use stock shaft aand external lockouts. i am having a caliper bracket cut from the pattern of the rear brackets and matching the spindle holes on the front knuckle.hope it helps

well my biggest concern was that these axles may be closed knuckle. i have no clue so if anyone could fill me in thatd be great? i know peterson's said that they were one of the better years for dodge axles, so i was wonderin if anyone could agree or disagree with this?

I've always heard that the closed knuckle D70 front axle shafts are only about as strong as a regular D44 front. Finding a D60 would be a better bet.

Mmmmmm... tracta-joints (http://home.wmol.com/mechaniq/Images/PWSpecs/TractaJoint.jpg)
They would be 1.5" shafts with either 23 or 35-spline.

Some of the other closed knuckle axles (D44HD & D60 for sure) use 1350 joints. AFAIK, that's beefier than most open-knuckle D44 stuff. :p
