Does anyone use a "Weight Distributing Hitch" and if so what kind and is it worth the money? I will be towing my TJ w/ a 2000 Expedition(5.4L). The trailer is a 16'+2'(bobtail). Let me know. Can you post some pics of a setup. Thanks
Didnt search to hard did ya?
Yes, with that tow rig, and most any other, they are worth thier weight in gold.

When towing a car/buggy on a flatbed trailer, behind anything SMALLER than a 3/4-Ton or 1-ton, I'd get a WD hitch.
For a 3/4-ton or higher tow rig, it's a "nice to have" item. Not 100% necessary.

I did search this site and google. I know what they are for but wanted to see if people actually used them when pulling a Jeep. $300 is alot of money for something I have never used and I have hualed alot cars for my dad but I used a 1-ton. I do not have a 1-ton now so hence the question. Thanks.

ABSOLUTELY get the WD hitch! It is the best investment I have made in my tow rig/trailer!

I agree with 4Mogger. Best money I spent getting my trailer set up. Second best was the electric brake control system.

http://www.equalizerhitch.com/ - by far the best bang for the buck IMO.

$399 from RV Wholesalers (http://rvwholesalers.com/catalog/product.php?productid=268&cat=12&page=1). Not sure if shipping is still free. They sell on Ebay and shipping was free a while ago. (currently item 7994250851)

There was one for sale in the Misc. section a couple days ago. PortalTJ was the seller.

Equalizer is abso-fawking-lutely worth the money. EQ hitch and built in sway control. Set-up and use is fool proof.
And anyone that says don't bother using an EQ with a 1 ton truck has more than likely exceeded the rating of their hitch. Check the numbers on the rating sticker. Alot of hitches are only good to 5 or 6000 pounds without an EQ.

definitely use my hitch, towing a ten thousand pound enclosed 24' car hauler, will never tow without it, even with my new F-250, i still use it, not sure what kind it is, freakin expensive but worth every penny!!!! I think my new one is a reese, i bought it used, still gave $450 for it, but it was like new, the guy had a camper he pulled once, decided he didn't like the camper so he sold it and we got the hitch. don't consider it, just buy one... you won't yell at any of us for telling you too....i can promise you that!! The sway control is not even that big of a deal, the equalizer bars alone will keep the trailor from swaying, our flatbed doesn't have a sway bar, just the E-bars and it doesn't matter how much weight or where the weight is the trailor, it won't sway, but tire preasure will play a little role in that!!! (From experience!) I keep my tired within 10 psi of max for the tires and within 3 psi of each other. This makes a night and day difference when towing weight.

Guess it pays to work for a co. that has an acct at a wholesale trailer supplier.:D A Tuff Tow wd hitch set up is on special right now for a mere 170.00, including friction sway control.:flipoff2: Suppose I'll step up quick, and buy one up. Then again, I can get the Prodigy brake controller on sale for $95.00.

I have had the hitch for over a year............ never put it on though, I did put the sway control on though and love that.
