: new axle
izooki13 09-27-2001, 10:27 PM okay, my buddy got this axle off of some guy for free because it didn't "fit his rig". my buudy gave it to me and all he knows is that it's rebuilt. it sounds kinda suspicous to me, but i don't even know what kind of axle it is.
its got a bolt on carrier, 63" width, offset 6"? to the right, the gears have a dink set in the rear pan, and it has a 5.25"-5 bolt pattern.
does anyone know what the hell this is? feel free to ask any questions, or lead me to the right direction. i think it might be a ford 8.8" or 7.5" or something foreign maybe.
thanks in advance guys

Vermin 09-27-2001, 10:39 PM Ford 8.8 is not a removable-carrier style axle.. and far as I know, they only made a VERY slight offset model for the ranger (the long side was like.. maybe 2" longer). Mark that one off your list

izooki13 09-27-2001, 11:00 PM i was just gonna post, mark the fords off the list.
the carrier has 10 bolts, almost perfect circular pattern(like an oval). the rear pan on the the axle does not come off.
does anyone have any pics of a toy axle?
thanks-justin
0ILBURNER 09-28-2001, 06:28 AM How about a Land Rover? They have a big 5-lug pattern, chunck-type diff, offset to one side...
You only got the rear, correct?

Where are the pictures?

izooki13 09-30-2001, 08:34 PM its very possible that it could be a land rover, and it is only the rear. i don't have any pics (do to no camera), but i was wondering if you guys know anyone/where i could find a look-alike.
is this useful, or can i sell/trade for a toy axle? any input would be nice.
thanks a million guys-justin

Does the carrier pull out on the driveshaft side (third member-style)? Or does it have a removeable cover on the back, with bolts around it... If it's not a third-member style axle, then any Toyota, Sammy, and most other imports are scratched off your list.
You said it was offset to the side, so I'm assuming it is a front axle - is this correct?
They did use a Dana 44 under some Isuzu's - but it was a center-Diff rear axle, so scratch that too.
Someone asked for a Toy axle pic. Toy axles have the same 8" diff front and rear, so the rear would look the same as this one:

izooki13 10-02-2001, 04:08 PM it is a third member style, and it is a rear (cuz it has no steering components like knukles or any field joints).
izooki13 10-23-2001, 12:14 AM i dont know if anybody still cares, but its an OLD Isuzu rear end. are these things useable/adaptable or worth anything? thanks a lot
