this may sound like a dumb question, but i don't know if the 5sp trans for 4cyl and 6cyl are the same for 2000 tj.I believe that the 99 and earlier models had ax5 for the 4 cyl and ax15 for the 6cyl,then in 00 they went to the nv3500.I have an opportunity to buy a totaled out 4cyl w manual trans that I want to swap in to my tj w/auto trans.please help. thanks

pretty sure they're different,, why do you want a Standard.. ??. I'd give for a nice AW4 in my TJ

just gearing,I'm tires of 3000 rpm on the highway, sucking down fuel like crazy.I would love to stay auto. Are you talking about the cherokee tranny?? I did not give it much thought.I was thinking I would get a wrecked 5 spd jeep and use the tranny and the pcm and wiring harness. If you have any info on the aw4 swap that would be appreciated

The transmission used in the 2.5L TJ in 2000 was the AX5. It wasn't replaced until 2003 with the NV1500 when the 2.4L became the base engine. The 2000 4.0 TJ got the NV3550. This was never used behind the 4 banger though.
