I think they are very close in size. I know the MT/Rs will excel on sandstone and such, but which
would you prefer for nasty rocks (i.e. Phoenix trails or Johnson Valley)? Don't care about street
ride or wear. Figure 3500 lb. rig.
Thoughts or experiences?

My vote is for the SX's-more puncture proof. Especially if road manners aren't a consideration.

I have had both and I say the SX's are a better off-road tire. That bing said, you can get a good trail pressure for rocks in an MT/R at about 12 lbs where the SX takes 4-6 lbs.
More air means more clearance.
On the slick rocks of Farmington and Moab, I would say the MT/R's would be awesome, but in the ragged rocks of Johnson Valley, Las Cruces or Arizona an SX stands apart from the crowd.
