Gen. Nonsense 01-21-2006, 07:55 PM Got my steering done, torched out the crappy "A" hoop on the cage and caught the Scout on fire.
The insulation on the firewall caught a spark and up it went, lost the bulkhead connector in the center and the blower motor wires. No loss really, the blower was trashed anyway. Now I guess I can start on the new dash and gauges Ive had planned. :D
Tomorrow is house stuff
Damm, it's only Sat. Made a cool metal framed gate to access neighbors backyard, wife and neighbor share's a garden. I will post a pic later. ( When then the fence was blown down, wife said it would make it easier for them to go between the yards with a gate.)
My rim's are not done:( Dean said his vendor is behind, he just waiting on more centers.
So the Scout is taking a back seat to other projects this weekend.
Going tubing Sunday.
Can't wait to see what Josh gets done with his work party:D
johnnyx 01-22-2006, 08:10 AM Stayed up late Friday to finish my junk for the Sat run (in the first post) but after getting the brakes all hooked up it had a nice leak from one of the hard lines...gotta replace it. No wheeling for me yesterday.
Finished a booty-fabbed ubolt plate setup - self inflicted, and self corrected. Today...football - go Seahawks!
EDIT: I know it's Monday, but I'm gonna make a judgement call. :D
Finished up bending & bleeding my front brake lines - took the turd out for it's maiden voyage after swapping "new" SOA'd axles under it. It goes straight, it turns, it stops, it has bumpsteer. :D Big ass shackles are coming off straight away. :)

Ronnie Scout 01-22-2006, 08:47 AM Out wheeling yesterday with KcJ and others, my CB fried for some unknown reason.:mad3: It's supposed to have smoke coming out of it, right? My pics are over on Just IH (http://www.justih.org/Binder-Bench/showthread.php?t=6455).
I did pinch the antenna cable in the door...but it worked normally for a couple hours after that?
slipscomb 01-22-2006, 10:30 AM Still recovering from last weeks financial burden on the replacement of my fuel pump. I party'd all weekend!:flipoff2:
Urban Wheeler 01-22-2006, 11:22 AM Picked up some 2x4x1/4 rec tube for a front crossmember, but I'm not sure how I am going to mount it. If I do it like this [] I don't have enough room to bolt on my hooks, so I might do it like this ---.
Binder 01-22-2006, 11:57 AM I wheeled.....Deep snow.:D

Looks just like mind did when I got it.
SSGTWC 01-22-2006, 03:58 PM Well, it wasn't a weekend's worth of effort for me, more like a week long effort. Short little stints after work.
Started the tranny swap, replace the rear main seal, and dynamat the firewall job. Almost finished with it, just have put the rest of the front grill back together, mount the tires back on, and do the road test. Fired the engine back up this after and discovered a bad exhaust leak. I'm hoping it's just the donut not seated right. Although it could be a cracked manifold, since I pull it off to get to a rotted out emissions plug. Then when I was mounted it back on I thought I heard it crack, but thought it could just be settling. Oh well I'm taking this week off, so I can fiddle with it this week.

budget76 01-22-2006, 04:43 PM got halfway through my powersteering swap, then realized i needed to order the borgeson conversion from damien to finish, and need to get a custom hose made up (70's pump with the 1980 box). pulled the spring i bent two months ago and decided its too weak to bend back, so its time to call up skycrapper and try to order one main, or have one made up at a spring shop:mad3: also wired up one of the self-amplified subwoofers, then my radio crapped out on me:shaking: also tar'd up my shitty patch jobs on my inner fender, then proceeded to getting tar all over me while pulling the manual steering box off
uglyscout 01-22-2006, 06:28 PM Ended up getting nothing IH related done - was going to go junk yarding - but stopped by a buddies new property and ended up spending all day burning down an old shed and crap - the trailer house gets pushed over and burned in a few weeks. The pic does have an IH in it...

69scout800 01-22-2006, 07:03 PM Watched the Seahawks kick some arse on their way to the SUPERBOWL!!!!
TheCopperCowboy 01-22-2006, 07:21 PM Yesterday, got rid of all things Early Bronco related. Three years worth of collecting down the drain and into the bank. :D Today, while listening to the Donkeys getting whipped, I moved the '78 Bronco into the shop 'cause I got a buyer checking it out this week. Too bad nobody here wanted a built 460 with a NP435 attached, kind of a sweet truck. I purchased one of those blue top deep cyle w/ starting battery at Checker for the '79 Scout II, rewired the winch so the battery disconnect worked again, then started to fine tune the engine just so I can pull it in a week or so. I'm waiting for the motor mounts and trans / transfercase adapters from AA, need to get a LUK clutch and F*rd truck crossmember for the bastard engine swap. :smokin: Sure no one here is needing a good running and tight 304? Going once, going twice.........:flipoff2:
JoshC 01-22-2006, 09:05 PM Can't wait to see what Josh gets done with his work party

Not quite done. Needs the uprights to continue up to the top of the main hoop, making a straight shot all the way down to the frame, then some diagonals from the frame up to the outer ends of the "bottom" of the B-hoop.
Add some shovel mounts, spare tire mount, etc.
I wired another ignition wire in my Scout, replaced the battery (upgraded), and got a few misc things squared away.
tsm1mt 01-22-2006, 09:10 PM ..then Sunday I wheeled.

Todd is in the yeller Scout II - SOA, T'all SF60 rear, 33s, front Lockright, 345, T18.
Found some soft snow..

Todd broke an axle.. after he mentioned "There's my spare parts" and pointed to my rig before we left.. lucky guy.. my LAST long-side shaft is in his Scout now.. good thing he didn't break a short side.. I'm out of those.
http://www.m4x4a.org/ImageGallery/2006ParkLake01222006/img_5366.sized.jpg
Since the joint in the spare axle was a little worn out (Hey, "trail spare") Todd climbed in with Michelle n' I. MIchelle moved to the back seat, so the picture taking stopped. :D
We then had the CJ lose his clutch, so it was time to head home..
Getting Todd's Scout on the way back down..
http://www.m4x4a.org/ImageGallery/2006ParkLake01222006/img_5369.sized.jpg
Had to yank him out of his parking spot..
http://www.m4x4a.org/ImageGallery/2006ParkLake01222006/img_5386.sized.jpg
First trip out with the "new" hardtop, functional tailgate, new bumpers, air tank (front bumper hooked up), winch, etc.
Hardtop was nice. The holes in the cargo deck that let exhaust come inside wasn't so nice, but that's when I reminded Michelle that the side glass has sliders on this Midas top.. :D
The winch works. Not bad for $300.
Drug myself through a snow drift first, then later had the CJ hooked to my rear, and used the winch to pull both of us along after he lost his clutch and I got myself buried in the soft snow - not soft enough to just blast through, but not heavy enough to pack up - except for the icy top crust from the snowmobilers..
Didn't get the winch hot, didn't stop pulling at any time.. sounds like a keeper.

I never thought of using duct tape for triangulation:idea:
Looks bad ass none the less. we'll have to wheel this summer. If you'll let me play, that is.

Cool! Do you ever get down this way. Moonrocks or something? Or... Maybe we can get a bunch of you PNW guys down for the Rubicon Run this year?

Sweet,
Thant must be Phil's new place. Be sure to let me know when the BBQ is, I'll bring the marshmellows!:D
Friday-Saturday: Spent celebrating my best buds birthday in Corvallis, when shooting friday morning, then back into town for Underworld Evolution, Then dinner, then beers at his place with firends after dinner. Needless to say it was a very full days. Saturday I ran errands with him and his fiance, then watched another movie and headed home. When I got home I had to help my Dad put his new elliptical together. Pretty cool machine!
Sunday: I took the day off. I had planned on working on my truck, but my parts were no where to be found. The weekend before I had taken them with me to rescue another rig and think I left them in my buddy's truck. I hope so, because it about 100 bucks worth ot lug studs and nuts.
Great weekend, nice to see the Seahawks pound the Panthers.
Snoopy 01-23-2006, 10:11 AM Kept looking for a new house...
IHC-6 01-23-2006, 10:13 AM Got the last bits on this truck I have been working on for MONTHS done.
New motor runs sweet, and it will be leaving my shop this week. Now I can work on my own junk for once.

So............................Did you take it for a test drive?:D :D
61scout80 01-23-2006, 11:21 AM unpacked more stuff in my apartment, seen a phoenix coyotes hockey game and enjoyed the warm weather....time to start looking for a trail rig soon....just need a few pay checks....
IHC-6 01-23-2006, 11:53 AM So............................Did you take it for a test drive?:D :D
Not yet. :)
Maybe this afternoon after I get the everything set to spec. I broke in the cam, burped the cooling system, and then let it idle for about an hour while I made sure there were no leaks or problems.
That let all the anti-freeze that was in the exhaust system burn out from when the engine failed causing the rebuild.
ih4ever 01-23-2006, 04:13 PM well i finally torched up the last part of my 1 ton, and i started with my scout, took the top off and torching the body... other then that nothing else worth while to report..
Chris would be cool to see some pic's:D
jdjanda 01-23-2006, 07:39 PM Well after much internal debate I decided to stay the course on the 4 link and not switch to a shackle forward rear leaf design.
Since I've been hiding under a rock for a while I'll catch y'all up on the latest project. I've been working on a double tri 4 link since early Dec, might even fit under a stock Scout with a 1" body lift, and fuel cell.

mmmmmmmm, bags.
NICE!:smokin: :smokin:
what you using for axle end joints?? They look like threaded bushings?
Munchies 01-23-2006, 09:13 PM DO bags compress like springs with little air in them? I know you can amnually raise/lower but that seems like a PITA.?
scout254 01-23-2006, 10:05 PM Ran around sat doing errands for roomate, then worked on half cab. Had to go to sactown for funeral of great uncle:( :( Loaded up pickup with load of tile from parents house, trying to help clean the barn out of my dad's old stuff.
jdjanda 01-24-2006, 06:47 AM DO bags compress like springs with little air in them? I know you can amnually raise/lower but that seems like a PITA.?
Hmm, yes. It takes about 20 PSI to hold the rear at ride height, when the bag compresses the pressure in the bag raises, sorta of like progressive rate springs.
what you using for axle end joints?? They look like threaded bushings?
The joints are RE style, in the picture I had not put in the retainer clips in, thus the bushings where loose in the shells.
binderbound 01-24-2006, 05:20 PM JD-whats with the rearend? Is the carrier in to help keep everything square or did you break the pinion and never tore it down?
scoutver5.7 01-24-2006, 05:33 PM Got tired of all the junk in the shop. Took five axle assemblies to a consignment auction - a complete Scout D27 with 44 outers, a 9", a 10 bolt and a set of Cherokee Chief offset 44s. I didn't set a reserve so they sold. I'll find out whether I got $1 or $500 when the check comes.
Got the shop cleaned out and ready to start on the Scout again.
jdjanda 01-24-2006, 08:08 PM JD-whats with the rearend? Is the carrier in to help keep everything square or did you break the pinion and never tore it down?
Formerly offset, cut and spliced back together to make a 70" wide D70 with Yukon alloy shafts with wheel spacers the axle will be 75" WMS to WMS to match the front DRW 60. I put the carrier in when I welded the axle back together so I could make sure the axle didn't warp.
