Can someone explain to me how a dimple die actually works? I know why you use them, and that you cut the hole, and put a die on each side, but then what? What do you do then? Thanks

LOL.... I understand why it is used and what it does, but I want to know HOW its done. There are times when the piece you want to dimple die cant be done on a press... it has to be done in place. I figured that you put a piece on both top and bottom, attach a bolt through both pieces and crank it down, thus sucking the top towards the bottom and making the indentation? Thats one way I thought it was just, just was wondering how it really is. Thanks

you use a press, no idea if you could get a bolt to do the trick or not?
might work:)
but yes, you got the idea of how the work;)

Some of the smaller dimple die sets do use a bolt to force the dies together, but most larger dies will need a press of some sort.

Here's a similar post with some good links and info: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=422935&highlight=dimple+die

for a 2" die in 1/8" plate steel I`m guessing I use about 5 tons max. some times I cheat and use like the 3/4" male die and the 1" female die on the thick stuff.

some die sets are only good for like 16 gage and others well do up to about 1/8"
Most of them for sale on here are the 1/8" type.
( PS the power hacksaw just got done chewing up over 1,600 lbs of 4140 for the next run of dimple dies)
