anyone ever do a coil front setup in a burb. I have a Ford D60 that is coil sprung, long story, from an 85-? F-350 but it was setup for an E350 with the coils.

What would be the drawbacks of coils versus leaf springs? As far as the fabbing, not worried. Has anyone done this - or though of doing this ans decided not to, why not? Would i have to go with a 4 ling or fab radius arms

Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, i',m a newbie to pirate :flipoff2: - this is the coolest

Heres the long story details on why i have almost decided to use a coil setup on this IFS to SAS on my 99 burb. Any insight would be very helpful

Currently i have 2 D60 axles ill describe them

Axle 1 1978 79 F350 snowfighter axle bone stock needs completely rebuilt and new R&P more than likely however i dont know tire size yet on this burb project

Axle 2 1985 F350 D60 Completely new condition with ARB installed 456 RP moser 35 spline axles brand new seals rotors pads calipers etc Its virtually new and very clean Not that cleanliness matters but it does at least to anyone that works on their stuff Dual stabilizer high steer arm on pass side

Axle 1 ive had for some time

Axle 2 was placed under a 1998 E350 BADMOTHERFOCKER quigleys 4x4 conversion in place of the original axle the original axle had ball joints

The van was a coil setup from quigleys In order for me to use coils on axle 2 i had to raise the spring perch on the axle almost 8 inches with blocks BOO HISS i know This van was not put together in the backyard while gettin drunk however this is where it was originally thought up I ended up with about 14 inches of lift and ran 39.5 SSR wish i still had this one but i found out they make more every day so im not crying

Anyway SOME of you are beginning to see my solution

Cut off the blocks weld back leaf perch only one was removed the other is cast in the diff buy the ORU SAS kit for $900.00 and then, since the 7879 axle and 85+ won't interchange except for hubs knuckles tie rod diff cover high steer knuckle and fluid i can go buy another ARB Moser 35 spline axles for the 7879 axle and new rotors pads calipers and cant forget ring an pinion and thheeennn then i have the strength i currently have in the 85 axle #2

I aint doin it

Thats about 2,500.00 plus on a front axle not to mention the axle itself

I got axle parts that people dream about i aint about to and my wife wont let me go out and buy more shit to replace shit i already have just in a different setup

I can weld a LOT for $2500

This is why i am undecided and somewhat decided Has anyone done a front coil setup in a burb or other for that matter This seems easier the more i think about my solution could i use coil spring towers from a 79 12 ton or get some from quigleys or better yet 05 Super duty to rest the truck on

What do yall think I NEED SOME INPUT

Thanks in advance

Check out last weeks episode of extreme 4x4 on Spike TV they did a swap I had previously considered. They used the mounts and brackets from a newer Dodge 03-05 with the springs, then fabbed coil buckets and bucket mounts. Cool set-up and very useable. I was going to do this to my 96 Sub, but just haven't put anytime into this project, too busy working on my S-10:nuke:

I basically took the entire front end out of a 79 bronco, coils/radius arm set up and put it in my 97 silverado. Since then I swaped the d44 for a d60, but its still coil sprung. Worked great!! This is my daily driver and weekend warrior. Handles the road great for what it is. And the rocks even better.

Maybe I missed something but for that kind of money, why not just link it and use some Fox coil overs?

Well, i have been looking for the extreme 4x4 show details with th dodge towers and have yet to find them however i also looked at the possibility of the 78/79 ford setup because i have a 1/2 ton 4x4 now but after talking to a couple different comapanies that sell the coilovers, i think this will be the way to go also, i think i was the one missing something. Originally i was concerned that the coil over shocks would be too soft but i found out they can be custom made to my liking.

I can cut and weld but an engineer i am not. I hear the 4 link setup needs to be "engineered" or you can have some major problems with articulation and driving at speed. I'm going to research as much as i can about 4 link's and get busy. If anyone has any details on setting up 4 link, please forward it me.

I'm going to document this as much as i can and keep ya'll posted!

Thanks again.
