: T-case gearing and R&P ratio?

I was originally going to run stock sammi axles in my rig, and just get a sumo gearset, but with the discovery of a huge crack in my rear axle housing, I've decided to go toy axles right off the bat.

Ok, my question: The toy axles have 4.30 R&P in them, if I'm going to run 33s, would the sumo case get me too low? Can I save a few $$ and run a 4.1 or 4.8 t-case? I'm going to tow the rig to the trails, but it will see occasional road duty around town, and to nearby trails. Any opinions/experiences are greatly appreciated! :D

I'd have to agree, get as much gearing as you can within a reasonable price. You'll find that with 33"s you really can't have too much, not unless you get into the few hundreds to 1 perhaps.
I'd also recommend keeping all the gearing in the t-case, the 4:30s will be nice, to keep it more road worthy, I would not go higher than that in the axles.
I have a 4.16case and 5:12s in my 87 and don't like it for road use.
In my 91 I'ce got 4.89 case w/ 3:73s, that's much better on the roads, but off-road I'd want more for really extreme rocks, I've thought about putting a second t-case in. just my 02.

just put 5.89's and a 4:1 calmini in a sami on 35's/going to37's...haven't gotten to road test it yet, but expect it to be fine.
