How do Spicer 297-x joints compare to Neapco Brute Force 297-x joints?
Are they the same thing, or are the Neapco joints cheapo knockoffs?

I think those are a cheaper knock off that just has the same part #, I always try to get Spicer parts myself, they are normally not much mor eif you find a good local driveline shop.
along the same lines, has anyone ever heard of a 297xxc? I hear they are from forklift, rear steer D44. Supposed to me mcuho strong. Any one know about these? any know the axle width? Would it make a good rear steer axle?

I went throught 2 brute forces in a week and a couple dozen over the course of a couple months....Chief Auto Parts stopped warrantying them and gave me a refund...
Granted at teh time I had a slight angle problem, but a spicer would last me 3-4 months while the brutes lasted a week if I was lucky and babied it

Spicer has recently discontinued the 5-297x. This leaves you with the 5-760x which is a pretty good joint. I have run neapco, and their tolerances are just a little looser than spicer. Probable not a huge deal, but something I observed.

Yeah, I know about the 5-760... but not alot of folks are carrying them yet, and there are ALOT of 297s in distribution.
Thanks for the feedback on the Brute Force joints guys.

I believe my Gleoco driveshaft also had these joints for what its worth--I know different application but same brand nonetheless. Non greasable and a little play even brand new. I don't like them and would rather have Spicer any day.
