: cj battery trouble

83 cj-7 with a 4.2 straight six
its eaten 2 batteries, they go dead after sittin for awhile, about 2 weeks, when i jump it and run it the vltage spike to over 15, after about 10 mins i can't get the gauge to read anywhere over 14. i checked very carefully and nothing was left on, i was looking for the next place to check, any help is appreciated

btw after batt dies it won't hold charge for longer than a night

Your alternator may not be charging, but that may not be the root of the problem. To check it bring it to autozone and they will test it for free. Well you never know so be sure and check it out.
