OK I have been thinking about this and
was wondering why no one has run this

basicaly a hot rod rear end with pumkin
in the middle whith 2 drive shafts
1 to each wheel.

If you did this and enclosed the drive
shafts in tubeing then welded the tubeing
so that it is solid it seems that you could
then put leaf springs or coils on the out side
and have mega clearance

I am probubly not explaining this corectly
but if you have a beer and think about it
for a while

Ummm like one diff for each wheel?

Kinda like each wheel gets it's own half axle kinda sorta thing?

Tell me I'm wrong and I'll go get more      :D

Is that it? A Jag/Vette IRS welded solid like this 0^0 ?
I can tell you one thing, they're definatly not known for their strength!

If it's strength that you are worried about, I see top loader rockwells for sale for like 500 a piece all the time.. All I'm visualizing right now is IRS.. That doesn't sound like a very good idea to me...

anyone remeber top truck challenge, maybe 98,or so,there was a cj with IRS. used identacle suspension,F/R with military diffs, some kind of NASCAR hubs, and complete with rear steeering. it had a powerlock in each diff and was motivated by a 500 cid caddy engine. had to admit was pretty tuff.

year before last there was a dodge raider ona shortened, narrowed hummer chassis with F/R independent suspension. lotsa ground clearance.

i like to look at stuff like that, when nicely engineered, but i think ill stick to leaf springs and solid axles in my trail rig... :smokin:

Here is something I built for a friend of mine. Sounds like what you're talking about.

I think the CJ used gamma goat independant type suspension front and rear.

Thanks, The Idea was his, and it had a few "issues" but reliability has been good with the exception of the bolt on yoke. Its not up to the task of the job at hand. The truck has a new owner now and I heard might be having a billet yoke made.

ok so it can be done, my big question is why bother? if its clearance you're after buy mog axles, price can't be an issue I know from just trying to change lug patterns and convert to disks that custom machining is not cheap.
looks way trick though

I know that guy, his family has a auto scrap yard not too far from me. All those hummers they had were supposed to be crushed per the gov't. contract, I guess a few got overlooked. hehe

thats putting alot junk in there that could break, plus thats alot of added weight. i like it though, and i remember seeing that jeep somewhere a year or two ago.
