: Antiwrap issues

Ive got a bit of a dilema with trying to not waste my springs and not hammering my rearend to bits.

While installing my 4.56's,(bye,bye 3.73)....I realized that I twisted my D44's pass. side axle tube near where the anti-wrap bar is attached.I dont beat on my rig uneccesarily, but it does have a fair amount of grunt, running the V-6.
Without the bar,I was destroying YJ spring packs like mad,....less-so after installing 1" YJ lift springs, but they still were getting twisted. So I bought and installed a Spidertrax anti wrap bar.Worked great, spring carnage was gone.....but now, this twisted axle tube!
Since the Sammy is quite light,we are all prone to running light duty spring packs so prevent a buckboard ride and keep articulation high. But doing so means that axle-wrap is gonna get'cha.

With Sammy or Yota axles its not too big a deal since you can easily weld just about anywhere on the one piece sheetmetal housing. But the D44,being a tube/cast does not seem to like the twist.Anyone running Dana axles come up with a Suzuki friendly method of anti-wrap?.....BTW,I read all the threads in the Jeep forum....
Cables are ghetto,chains(ditto)....
The tractor links over the springs seem viable, but would probably kill articulation.....
Extra, thick leaf up front might help, but what about compression articulation?.....
Welding anything new to the axle tube will probably just get me right back where I am now.

Should I just have my D44 re-tubed with super thick tubes and have them weld the piss out of the center housing/tube connections?

Just weld tube to the housing with Nickel rod, on the traction bar side and you'll be all right.:D

You can also truss the axle.:smokin:

It seems to me that if you anchor the chunk instead of the tubes, they wont have stress to deal with. It is all taken care of at the source. I have an anti-wrap built by Ron Chase which bolts to the stock Sammi chunk. If ya wanna see it, search Flickr.com for GeoB or Suzuki Samurai. Something like mine might eliminate the problem.

Here's an 8.8 I just did in a Bronco II:

what are those "things" between the springs and axle?

Not my Bronco II. It runs 35" BFG's dual t-cases and Dana 44 SAS. All done by me for the customer:

I specialize in Samurais but will do anything that comes into the shop:

I know I've got a four link on mine, but I trussed mine as well as extra welds on the tubes. I've got the thick tubes from a 79 waggy 44's front and rear.

Nice.

Ive got a line on a new housing.Think Im gonna draw up some plans to brace and truss it up,while its on the bench.Ive already got some nickle rod from my Scout front axle buildup.
The current bent housing is still short distance driveable, but no wheelin' till I get it replaced.
