searched and read a tonne, but no one seemed to have the same setup .

I have a 89 hp 60 that I want to end up 65" wms to wms give or take an inch. I will be running 36 irocs on a stazworks double b/l with a 5.5 inch bs.

in the 60 bible there is a listing for a misc shaft in reading the d60 bible, they list misc axle part # inner 660182-26 32.06 inches long my current one is 36.6". has anyone used this and cut the outer tube down to that size, or is this not what it appears to be.

also one ofthe threads I read had a guy cutting away part of the pumpkin to mount a control arm more inboard. he cut clear around I believe. would it be strong enough to cut just the face where the control arm bracket would mount, and weld the inside of the bracket to the tube, and the outside to the pumpkin; as this would give me more clearance for the control arms?

otherwise i could cut the axle down further and mount spacers on each side to help with control arm clearance.
am I missing any other options?

I have a 79 Hp60 under my TJ, I cut the short side and used an off-the-shelf Spicer inner, so it's the same principle for yours. However, my advice to you is to check if the part number of the axle still exists, buy it first before you cut the tube.

As for the brackets, you don't have to cut the pumpkin to mount the CA brackets, you could buy the right welding rod and weld-it on ( using the proper technique to weld mild steel to cast iron: pre-heat and pin) Also, you only need to weld one tab on the cast iron. Good luck.

Edit: You could also weld the tabs on the spring mount.

I'm looking into the same thing (next winter). TO make it simple I'm going with a 78-79 inner shaft. Easier to find axle shafts.
