that's gonna look bad ass when it's done, did you just use the back end of a hard top to close the cab?

Nice, what's the plan for you running gear? Also how's the suspension go to be set up?

gunracer
09-05-2001, 05:17 AM
running gear is a 12a mazda rotary with a mazda 5 speed hooked to a grs 2 then a tracker rear with 5.12s welded up. and a stock zuk front with 5.12s and a lock rite. it will be a 3 link rear with 1/4 eliptic f-150 spring in an ajustable bucket for ride height adjustment. the front is going to be a 4 link 1/4 eliptic set up with saginaw power steering. thats the general plan.more than likely go to a set of 44s when he gets some cash to regear or just get a set of custom axles to fit the tracker rear and built a custom 44 front. either way it will be a cool rig. later mike

Sounds pretty custome. I use to hear alot about rotary engines, whats it run like. I know they worked well in the RX-7's, although I've never had the chance to even look at one.

gunracer

the rotary has a firing sequence of a v 12, very smooth good torque. it feels like an electric motor. plus you can get 200+hp out of it pretty easy. this one will have a header and be in the 105 to 110 hp range should be plenty for a 22oolbs zook.

your rig looks EXTREME,dude!(haha follow the thread in "chit chat"...)
just a couple quick questions,though.

-even with gnarly gearing, what is the torque output of a rotary? i'm unfamiliar with them generally speaking, and haven't heard if they're good for low speed stuff-more high RPM application?

-did you think about making an "extended cab"? that would've been pretty cool,as even with me,i find samurais a cramped for "elbow" room, let alone space to stow stuff in-cab.
i am afraid i would get totally claustrophobic in a little pick up style compartment.
being able to tilt the seat back however far i want to is one of the major plusses i really enjoy with my soft top.

gunracer

we chopped it up in photo shop and the extened cab version looked like shit. that was our original idea. but we liked the look of a regular cab better. besides my buddie jai bird is only about 5'7" so he will have plenty of room. later mike

ya,i guess that's a tough call allright,it's really difficult to maintain that "right" look to something when building.
i like the samurai's overall shape/dimension and you've done a nice job of keeping this in proportion.

VERY nice.... I've seen LOTS of people do LOTS of "things", but very few who had the "eye" for make'n it look good.... VERY,VERY nice....keep it up...

There are a few rotarys out there. There is a rig called mazuki that has a site, do a web search and it will probably come up. Anyone know the URL?

if you look at the rotary it fires 6 times for every three hundred and sixty deg. of revolution. which is the same as a 4 stroke v12. a v8 fires 4 times each rev. later mike

That high-rpm H.P. sounds great, but how much TORQUE does it make? I've seen 3 different rotary-powered Sam's. They worked great if you're a sand-blaster or Ivan Stewart type driver. None of those guys did any 'crawling tho....

well we gave up on the tracker rear and zook front. going full width. dana 44 in front and a dana 60 rear. there is just no way we can fit the saginaw box on it with the zook front end. the rims are not off set enough, or we need more lift. so it looks like it will be on 38s soon enough. we have to pick up the 3/4 ton dodge friday. and start ripping the axles out of it on saturday. later mike

Rotary's don't have the "firing sequence" of a V12. By that, I'm guessing you mean the number of times it fires per revolution. If you do, it has the same as a V6. 2 cylinders with 3 sparks per revolution each.

kool hand zuke
08-18-2003, 11:45 PM
On a four stroke power is made every other revolution for any give piston. The second rev. is to expell exhaust gases.
