i dont know what gears mine are but i got a complete 3rd with 5.29s for 100 bucks. i was thinkin of gettin genuine gears with the lifetime warrenty but they most likely would fail out in the middle of know where.

I would pay the extra money for some decent gears... my friend frank has a 78 bronco and he runs 4.56:1 with 38" tires. he drives it like a grandpa. His first gears were Genuine Gear (he worked at 4wheelparts at the time) but they failed after 8 months. I think thats a little short.

By the way 4wheelparts set up the gears in the diff, he didn't touch it himself.

In 2 word THEY SUCK , save your money for a top brand like precision gear. I'll give you an example around here I generally do all driveline related work for everyone. About 6 months ago I installed 2 sets of r&p into toyota 4cyl cases for the same guy who got a good buy at a swap meet for two sets of 529 one PG the other genuine. This truck was for offroad use only as it is all the time in 4wd and locked. I set them both up identical to this date ive installed well over 500 r&p . I put the PG set in the rear and the genuine in the front the rear pg gears still look new w / clean oil the front looks like metalflake paint the teeth have some funky wear patterns on them which i have noticed on several genuine sets. save your money buy a good name brand and be happy:D

I had them in mine and never had a problem. Not saying they are great, but just my opinion.

I wouldn't buy something you NEED like gears just for the warranty. What are you going to do when your rig is down and you are waiting for them to warranty them? More than likely you will buy another set (from someone else) and still hope to get the genuines back for a spare set maybe, but I think you'd be better off getting the ones you'd buy the second time first, and maybe some genuine's if you feel you need a spare diff.

you couldn't GIVE me a set of Genuines. Kong's 4x4 wont install
them anymore, period. Too many failures. Cheap gears are a waste of time and $$$$. that is if you can even get them to set up correctly to begin with.

If the lifetime warranty included lifetime trailside assistance it might be worth it, bet they wouldn't even run their gears in the service truck!

...And besides, you can get 4Wheelparts down to 'bout 100-ish for a set from them, if you get them into a price-match. So why buy from someone with no return policy for more than that?

I have been around two sets of 4:88s and Two sets of 5:29s that have broken. Both of my friends know run richmonds and haven't had any problems on over 3 years.

They suck

I had em' for about 18 months before a tooth broke off the ring gear. I was mostly a pavement pounder at the time too!

Lifetime warranty..HA! If you use them on a stock axle with 31" tires max. Add a Detroit and 35's and they'll laugh at you! And, they are not going to refund your money you paid to have them setup.

I'm using Precisions now. Great gears. I haven't had a problem with them!

I had 5:29 Genuine's with a Detroit. Every 3 months I knew it was time to call and have my warranty set sent and pull the third member. Installed by 3 different mechanics and pinion shredded every 3 months right on schedule. All the overnight shipping costs, install kits, and installation costs add up to well over the cost of precisions or richmonds. Currently running Dana 44 with Spicer 5:38s. 3 months has passed and no problems.
