Hi Everyone,

I currently own a 74 FJ40 and was looking to get new wheels/tires. After some time, I decided to get the 15x8 American Eagle Series 054 Wheels with 33" Michelin ATX M/S. Called up America's Tire Co. and they ordered everything but would take about a week before I get them. Well everything came in this morning and I dropped off my cruiser before work. Anxiously waited until lunch to have them install it. Went over with a friend to pick up my truck in hopes of seeing it with the new wheels/tires. Stepped inside the shop and heard "John, we have a problem." Uh oh... I thought. "The tie rods are rubbing against the wheel when we tried to install it and no company makes a tie rod bushing kit for your truck. And you have a spacer on there". No clue what the guy said but he started pointing me to other wheels. However, I had my heart set on those wheels. I have no idea about offsets, backspacing, etc. so I'm hoping someone can shed some light and if these wheels can be put on my rig.

The following is American Eagles spec sheet for the wheels. The one I am looking at are 15x8, 6 on 5.5, machined wheels.

Also, here's a pic on Man-a-fre with a cruiser with the same wheels. So it has to be possible, somehow.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I responded in length on the Big List, so I will give you the short version on this forum.

Those wheels have 3.75" backspacing.

You must have 3.5" to clear the front tie rod on a FJ-40.

Buy some 1/4" spacers. Be done with it.

Tierod bushing kit? WTF? I would take your business to a shop that knows more than these fools. Get the 1/4" spacers & you should be fine.
