: Fouling Plugs

I have an ongoing problem with fouling spark plugs.

I have a '72 Chevy 350 with an Edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke carb. The engine has a stage 1 shift kit.

I am not buying the cheapest plugs either. They run about $1.50 - $200 each. (jobber price) I try different brands and ratings most every time.

I have not adjusted the carb yet. I pulled it out of the box and bolted it on. I am not exactly sure what screw does what. I am pretty sure it runs rich.

so which screws do what for adjustment?

I kinda want to get the air/fuel mix meter I seen in the summit catolog, but I am wanting to sell this truck, so I dont wanna put more money into it. Is this a good meter?

I was going to assume you knew what you were talking about, but this statement made me unsure..... is there some sort of double step cam/crank setup we don't know about??? :flipoff2:

are you sure your plugs are fouling from gas and not oil? and old chevy like that probably blows oil and that will foul the plugs...are they blackish and krusty? or golden brown and wet?

more info would be helpful. that carb should run fine on that motor right outta the box, so I would adjust the mixture like it says in the directions that came with the carb.... you might also try running stock plugs with a higher out put coil and opening up the gap a little if it still is truly fuel fouling...

Quit being a :rainbow: and buy some autolite copper cores. if you are using the platinums you will always foul the plugs. go to a smog shop/repair shop and ask why you should not run platinums. They foul out especially on older worn out lower compression motors.

Yeah, I am a jackass. I meant stage 1 cam

I guess I am not sure. The plugs are black and krusty. The engine has about 6K on a rebuild, I bought with 3K. Although, I have put this motor through alot :(

My coil is a 65,000 volt/watt whatever...
