long time lurker of the board and I just bought a 95 LR Disco. Ive done a lot of searching and ive pretty much read everthing in the Land Rover forum and im under the impression that if i lift my truck any higher that 2", ill have to lengthen my drivelines and brake lines...Is this true, I ran into a guy in my town that has my exact truck with 33" swampers and he said he had 4" coils made for him and that was all he did, is that possible?

now rip me a new asshole!

You do not need to lengthen them, but vibes MAY be an issue. Some trucks vibe like a tweaker at 3 or more, mine gave me no problems. You will need
longer brake lines
rear trailing arms
shocks to match the springs
the rest depends on what you want, from poseur all the way to rock crawler. Call Steve or Seth at Rovertym, they can walk you through the general steps based on what you want to spend.
You can also go with 2" springs and 2"body lift to get up there, but I personally do not care for body lifts.

what the hell. you seem humble :flipoff2:

here's the formula to a great performing, bolt-on rover:

-2" springs from OME or RTE, your choice.

-OME MD shocks

-RTE rear links

-33x12.50x15 tires in the mud pattern of your choice

-offset steel rims in 15x8

-cares about looks: flares from dap-inc. no whining about the price, these look great on a D1 and will give you plenty of room to articulate a set of 33's

option b) sawzall. Looks as good as you're willing to invest time in, probably won't cover the tires. price: cost of renting, borrowing, or purchasing a sawzall.

-detroit rear, truetrac up front

-4.11 gears

-rovertracks or GBR rear axle shafts

done and ready to wheel. drop the air dam from the front bumper and ditch the end caps, and wheel the snot out of it.

Hell, I'm humble too...when sleeping.

OPTION ?!?!?

Pal, with 33X12.5's over a 2" lift on a D1, the Sawzall is FAR from optional.

My 33's are only 9.something wide (255/85-16). With 3.5" of total lift, I had to move my rear axle back almost 1" to avoid door carnage.

what offset is best to use....havent read much about the transfer case in these rigs or the stock gears, but it says lock on the t-case lever, do these have a stock limited slip locker in them or what....i got the disco from a friend who owed me money, i have no clue about these things..im a chevy and toyota guy but after driving this thing everyday i wont drive anything else, they kick ass!!!!

Below are a couple pics of a truck set up exactly as I have described. I suggested it here because I know this combination works and works extremely well, and looks great on a disco IMO. If your imagination begs to differ then that's your issue.

the last truck is a disco I running 285/75, the metric equiv. to 33x12.50's. It's got somewhere between 3 and 4" of lift, very minor trimming to the fenders, and the axle has not been moved. he is running RTE rear links which probably helps mitigate things a bit.

The point is, you don't have to hack up a perfectly nice truck to run 33's :shaking: For most people, 8" travel shocks, lockers, and a set of 33's for clearance is going to be more than enough truck for what they're willing to trade in body damage to run the more extreme trails.

i know it's en vogue around here to bash on newbies wanting to run a tried and true setup, but I think it's worth pointing out once in a while what works and something that isn't pure bullshit and spat from a testosterone laden, juvenile perspective.

and don't fucking call me pal :cool2:

before you start buying parts I'd suggest you wheel a few trails with it just as it sits to give yourself a baseline. you also want to make sure you shake out any maintenance items / weaknesses before starting to modify it. It's easier to focus on mods and worry about having a running vehicle at the same time. these things like attention and will serve you well if you're willing to put in the time.

as far as trails go, a stock disco will surprise the hell out of you if you're coming from j**ps and yotas. give it a shot when you've learned to operate that diff-lock lever you were asking about.
