Just out of curiosity, when you have a shop build a custom hitch, what regulations and specifications do they use to figure out the rating for it? I know most offroad bumper builders dont bother with weight ratings for their hitches, either for liability or inability to do so. So what are the magic specs, or do shops building hitches have a full time engineer on site to perform the calcs and whatnot?
Reason for asking is I just had to build one for a 10 wheel Freightliner at work, 8 ton pintle over a reciever with the hitch frame dropped enough to match tongue heights. To call the result overbuilt would be an understatement.
