What's the best exhaust for an '03 Cummins?
I have heard that strait piping kills power. I would like to hear from guys who have done it instead of the folks at the muffler shop! If it does, what exhaust do you recommend? What's your views on how back pressure affects a turbo? The guy at my local diesel shop says that for a turbo to work to it's full potential it needs a little back pressure

no you don't need backpressure. straight pipe will increase peak power not hurt it and it sounds cool. Increased backpressure will increase low rpm boost but quickly chokes the motor and causes heat to build up which is the worst thing you can do for your turbo.

straight pipe it, mine is. It's loud but nice increase in MPG. You need to remove the cat as well though to really have a good high end flow

'03 Dodge Cummins does not have a cat.

I just put a 4" exhaust from the downpipe back with a magna-flo muffler on it. Really nice mello sound and it runs good.

Stock '03 Ram only has a 3" from the turbo back to the muffler then a 4" to the back of the truck.

As far as aftermarket, MBRP or RBP are no doubt the best. A full exhaust will compliment your chip and intake nicely and help lower EGTs.

I carry MBRP ;) let me know if your interested.

BHAF to breathe easier and straight pipe to exhale easier. Keeps the EGTs down as well :)
If you need work done to your CTD get in contact with Chace @ http://www.westtexasturbodiesel.com/index.htm

I really like the banks monster exhaust on the 03 and early 04's. It is actually a pretty good value when compared apples to apples with mbrp.

Ive got a straight pipe on my 04.5 with the cat still attached, and I love it.. it does drone a bit while towing, but Im used to it now, so it doesn't bother me.. If you don't like noise, don't straight pipe....

my buds 03 runs a straight pipe, it isnt obnoxious but it is loud and drones while towing.

I want an exhaust for my truck, 03 2500. Does the MBRP stainless system include the tip? I noticed the aluminized did not.

Scott, did you buy a "kit" or have a muffler shop bend up the pipe ?

I actually had a guy on www.dieseltruckresource.com GIVE me the pipe. He put it on his 04.5, and couldn't handle the noise, so he took it off, and then shipped it to me.. and maybe its because Im a young'n, but I don't have a problem with the noise or drone at all, towing or not.

the xp-series doesn't include tip, you need to go with the 304 pro-series to get tip included however I usually include one of our 304 polished tips when selling the xp kit.
