I'm seriously considering swapping in some full width chevy axles, and stretching my cj5. I'm not looking for tech, because I've researched the process to death. But I'm looking for your opinions, the good, bad, and ugly of going full width.
Thanks

Just giving you crap with the image ~ :flipoff2:
I think you need to tell us more about your type of wheeling (i.e., narrow, in trees, etc.) and most importantly, about your rig and your plans for your rig.
That is, are you extending the WB? what about drivetrain? Frame mods? Cage? Need to know this so we can give opinions.
If yer running the stock WB, then no. If you've got gearing, a big V8 or useful V6, have beefed the frame and are stretching the rig, then by all means enhance your rig proportionally ~ full widths rock.
There are other options than just tossing your stock axles and going 'full width'. I have 63" wide, stock width Waggy axles. Right in the middle, length-wise, between stock narry's and full width one-tons. But I have a trail rig.

Ok... good point, more info would help.
I'm running stock wb right now, d30 front w/ upgrades (shafts, locker etc) rear d44 FF, locked. 35" tires.
Drive train is 304 (eventually 350) t18a, d300.
I've already done some pretty extensive body mods.

I'm considering what Beyer05 did with his cj for length, at least the rear (dakota springs and stretching the frame...

I've also considered graderball...
I prefer rocks and trails. Mud is good for a quick fix, but like most quickies, the satifaction doesn't last long.

Go big and run some hummer rims or 5 inch backspaced rims if you don't want to be too wide.
Most I have spoken with have nothing but good things to say about it.

Just as long as your being serious. :flipoff2:
My DRW 60 w/ humvee rims measures in at 83" outside to outside. I believe thats your wheel base now. :flipoff2:

Full width is a catch all term. My front Dana 60 is 69" wms. (I actually brought it in 8"). It is the best mod by far than anything else. Unless you're doing the narrow trails in the trees of the Pacific Northwest you can't beat it.
It looks proportional with the lift and big tires. Very stable!

I put in 62" dana 60's front and rear Spring over riding on 37's and loved it... great off and on road and looked good... In the middle of stretching my CJ5 right now to 101" but going with a 1/4 elliptical rear... Check it out..

I'm gonna do it.. go full width and just deal with flying mud. The trails around here aren't that narrow. I found a decent deal on some axles out of a 3/4 ton. thanks for your input!
And Fireman... that is a sweet cage, I like the tubing you did for the frame as well.

Dude -
stretch your WB to at least 95" or so if you go there. Springover, frame reinforcements; keep it low. Do it right and you'll be most pleased.
