Last week I was posting about the squealing that I had mistakenly thought was the NV4500 input bearing. Then I pulled the transmisson, started the engine, and the squealing was coming from the back of the block! I was more than pi$$ed as this was a new engine. Called Scoggins Dickey, where I bought it and they were willing to do the warranty work, even though it was way past 30 days (8 mos). Then the guy on the phone asked me if I had checked the vacum. What would that have to do with it, I asked? He said that what I heard may be air sucking in through the rear seal. When I talked to him I had the engine stripped ready to take out and put in a crate. He recommended I try loosening the oil fill covers first and then send it if necessary. Put it back together this week, and that was the noise. I'm amazed. The noise didn't sound anything like a vacum squeal. Everyone that heard it said the same thing, metal on metal. Turns out that the breather I had was blocked.:emb2: :emb2:

Big relief! Sometimes things do have ways of working themselves out :P, I hate problems like that.

I've heard of something like that before, but never with my ears.
I'm glad (for you) that it was not something really bad:nuke:

The very best of news. I have spent the weekend playing in it. Runs great!!!!:) :) :) :) :) The only reason I can think of for the tone changing when I stepped on the clutch is that increased the pressure on the rear seal.

Long story. Short version. First I thought it was the throwout bearing, changed it, still screamed. Pulled the transmission, started the engine, scream still there. Pulled the serpentine belt, scream still there. The scream didn't start when I started the engine, it took up to 5 minutes on a cold enigne and 10 seconds on a hot engine. It was loud and sounded like metal on metal. To correct, I replaced the breather on the valve cover. Good luck
