I stopped at the local bar and grill today to eat lunch and see the better half (she works there) and a guy I know stopped in, small town, he's my brother's foreman. we got talking about my brothers mint condition 63 impala and how barret jackson was on last weekend, and like any other diehard I.H. guy I brought up my 3 scouts to which his reply was " I know a guy that had about 5 or 6 scouts, kept them in a barn, he passed away but his son has them now" of course I kept my composure and replied" is he going to fix them up" to which he said "no, I think he's wanting to get them out of there". so the way it sits now, he's going to see this guy next weekend and find out for me. his last reply was they've been sitting awhile so I dont think they would run but they would make good parts vehicles. I told him to let me know. imagine if these scouts have been sitting in a barn for years.....I'll keep everyone one updated.can you imagine how pumped I am right now:eek:

Cool man.... I just picked up a T-All like that. It had been sitting in this old guys barn since 87 in Tracy California. Good luck.. I feel like I found a million bucks. Could only imagine finding 6

I have heard a story, twice now, that when the IH plant in Fort Wayne closed they auctioned off the property. Some guy bought a building and inside was 30 Scouts. Somehow I doubt it, but one never knows for sure...

This may turn into an IH urban legend thread?

But you know some of these are true. Last year I found six Scouts, five were 1980 diesel and one gas engine all in the same spot they were parked 15 years earlier. Trees had to be cut down to get them out...

I thought so, but I posted it here because I figured this group could apprieciate more than anywhere else. don't all I.H. guys share:flipoff2: I'll be sure to take the camera if this is a dream come true. I think I have better chances of winning the powerball than one of them be the much wanted missing shawnee.

Eagle-mark, that looks like that yard up there in Athol.Farther north, Sagle. These were the last of 30 that were bought for a mine in Montana. Most were never titled as they worked off road.

Mark didn't end up with them.
But yes most have motors, most were missing parts, and another guy in the club ended up with them. He is parting them out. PM me if you need his contact information.

The guy swore one motor was good. You know Jon? He bought them, I just found them. I'll PM you his e-mail. There was a few t-19 wide and dana 300's but there all gone now! Bodies were hammered! They were used to haul trailers in and around the mine.

Thanks Mark, Yea core motors is what i was after. The 300s i figured got snapped up asap. Why did you not part them? Make some dough to build your rig even more.

Since this thread is already all but hijacked I figured I would throw a couple of Pics into the mix of my own. Mine is as straight as I have ever seen a IH. Not one bit of rust nor any dents. This is a true found in a barn, under a cover story. It is not urban legend if you have photographic proof

JohnI give most of what I find to Jon, then he gives me what ever part I need. We've been doing that for years...

I felt like a kid at christmas when i acquired my good scout from out west. just sent my dues in, if I have something to post before the red star I'll drop you a line. hows the rig running? going to drop some hammer paint on the fresh trail bumper for the trail scout this weekend, our club has thier annual events scheduling/card party this weekend so I don't know how much I'll get accomplished besides a hangover:D

Junior still won't pull his head out of his arse. The toyota is mine now. Been wrenching on it everyweekend , its a everday driver and a back up trail rig. This way when we get into the wheeling for the year and I want to upgrade the trail scout, I can still show up for the trail rides with out catching all the slack you whiners give me:flipoff2:

I'll be there saturday night....gotta be, I'm the V.P.:D . Not sure on Dresser, Paulie already dropped me an email about going to Attica as a club this year. Seems theres a few interested in going. How's that sound?

Oh, and if I do score this 6 scouts, your not getting any axles for your heep:flipoff2:

See ya saturday.

don't need the 44's already got one for the front and a 9" 31 spline detroit locker and it's got disc brakes, but will have drums for the first couple trail rides unless i get a hydro press with tax money. you need the 44 for the front of the toyota and get rid of that ifs crap.

attic would be cool and how about the apple river place in wis that would be cool and rockport for a weekend. your going to need bigger tires then those 32's you just got, time for some 36 irocks.

plus i don't know how to drive a tractor... :cool2:

Dresser is so last year... $$$'s to wheel with 2000 trucks. After waiting in lines all day you'll think your at Disneyland - except you have a headache from exhaust gas and exhaust noise. :barf:

Don't go! Go anywhere else!

well it was to good to be true. The guy stopped in yesterday and had lunch where the GF works and said they were hauled off to the bone yard. my plan now is to get ahold of him and see if he can find out which boneyard. but usually that turns into a hassle trying to get them.

Sorry to hear that man. keep looking, they pop up from time to time. I happen to know where a 68 1/2 short box v/8 4 speed is right now. No rust and has been sitting for the last 15 years. Going to go take a look at it tonight to verify with my own eyes. If it is as straight as has been stated then I will pick it up and have it for sale.
