: Welder Cart Plans
Seeker 03-30-2002, 01:07 PM I just got a miller 175, and am looking for things to make that aren't to critical cause I need lots of practice. So far I built a welding table and a cart for my oxy/acet tanks. I am going to build a cart for the miller next, and am looking for ideas/plans.
I like the carts miller sells but would like more storage for helmet gloves extension cord etc. I also want to keep it light so I can still throw it in a pick up, after all the 175 is supposed to be portable and I have a 40' extension that plugs into the 30 amp dryer plug.
Any write ups or on-line plans would be great, TIA
and yea I tried a search:flipoff2:

rodzzilla 03-30-2002, 03:05 PM Here are some pictures of my Cart/Welding Table. I built it to hold the welder and plasma cutter. I am looking for a small tool box to put gloves and misc. parts in.

rodzzilla 03-30-2002, 03:09 PM I made it from stuff laying around. I realize it isn't portable, but it might give you some ideas.

Tracknod 03-30-2002, 05:24 PM A friend of mine used a shopping cart he found in a ditch as a basis to making his cart and it works like a charm. Plus it cleaned up the ditch where the cart had been sitting for a month. I can post picts Sunday if ya want.
fj40guy 03-30-2002, 05:30 PM Cool :D
Only thing "missing" is a couple of hooks for the big (7") and little (4") grinders.
My table is an odd 18" x 48" mainly due to lack of room in my garage/shop. I used fixed casters at the back, rotating ones in the front. With the weight of the Plasma cutter it is fairly stable. Top is a steel box from an old parking arm gate, fitted with 1" x 1/4" strap mounted every two inches for the plasma cutter cut off. Steel plate fits over part of it fo setting up welding jobs.
Hmm, few more ideas from Rodzzilla... THANKS.
I used surplus ammo boxes to hold the misc stuff.

(waiting on the star to appear so I can post a photo)
rodzzilla 03-30-2002, 06:22 PM Yeah, mine is still a work in progress. I still need to run a cord to it, and then I am going to put a 110 leg off for the plasma cutter or grinders. The casters actually roll too well, I need to put a brake on one, or have a stop come down simular to the old dairy dollys. Still haven't perm. mounted the vice, just been clamping it down. One of these days.

i got the wheels from harbor freight for ~$10 each. The tank sets on a mount betweeen the 2 rear wheels. The big wheels let it roll over all the crap on the floors with out trouble.. Mostly its 1.5" anngle with some plywood for the center s with a small piece to keep the welder from sliding on the lower part...
I can snap more pics if you need any...

I just mounted my vice to some 2x2x.250 square tubing..
I'm in the middle of building my shop/welder/bender cart.. which sports front and rear receiver hitches! :flipoff2:
I'll be able to slide my bender in one corner, a tube-holder in another, the vice in another..
OR mount the vice or bender in my truck's hitch, should I need to use it somewhere else.
Hopefully I'll be able to finish construction of the new cart tomorrow..
Seeker 03-31-2002, 03:50 PM Thanks for the idea's. Will get the steel tomorrow and start welding it up. Zuki.. like the big wheels, you have a pic of the tank mount and/or the stop to keep the welder from sliding out?
Jeff
yager 03-31-2002, 07:38 PM Hope this helps
not shown is the small chain i use to keep the tank to the cart on the top rail.

got a p/n on the casters? I have been looking for those to make a cart for my miller, and will need one for the JD2 whenever it gets here. There is a lip about 1.5" tall on the concrete between my driveway and garage, and rolling over it would be nice.
was the $10 for a fixed wheel or for the swivel mount like on the front?
yager 04-01-2002, 05:06 AM np, ill snap a few pics tonight when i get home. The wheels are the only 10" wheels avaliable at Harbor Freight that come with the mounting brackets included. They were 1/2 off a few months ago. ($10 for rigid/$12 swivel) and there is a local store in town so i can snag up the good deals when they have them. They have a greese fitting on them also and use a standard 10" (ie find it anywhere) tire....
its not as maneuverable as a cart with smaller casters but it will roll over 2x4s like nothing.
IF you put this on a cart you plan to bend with make sure its a hydro or you have a way to lift the wheels up (or put legs down) As the wheels tend to roll over stuff very easy. I use the top for my blanket, clamps, rules, etc....I need to put a few buckets on the side....
ill post some various pics later....
my next mod to the cart is gonna be to mount a 44# spool to the back it such a rip off buying 10# spools all the time...
