Drill press is a generic Chinese rig with a POS chuck on it. Looking for a decent 3JT taper 5/8 chuck. So far everything I have found is at least $115 or so if made by Jacobs.
Just looking for recomendations of something not so pricey.

Jacobs Super Chuck. Buy it once, never look back ;)
Or a Rohm keyless for around $80... Pretty damn nice, but you can't use it with a hole saw or you'll over torque it and destroy it.

Jacobs makes a non-ball bearing 'cheapo' chuck that works fine, and it goes down to 3/64" - 5/8" In fact I think they have one that goes form 0 - 5/8".
Yeah it's not the Super Chuck, but really all you need is one that actually opens and closes and holds a drill, am I right? ;)
I have a cheapo drill press and while the press itself is ok, the chuck is going in the river when I finally get around to getting a decent chuck. The one that came with it is worse than useless, I'd prefer it would actually just lock up finally or break so I HAD to get a new one.

The chuck atually still works decent, but the wrench got lost and I can't find one that fits it good. Makes it hard to get it tight.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Enco yet, they run the gamut from cheap-but-still-good-enough-to-work to the pricier better quality stuff

Have you tried one of the 4 way chuck keys? Also, get the name off your drill press and look them up online to find a key. I like the 4 way ones because they are nice to grab, and I put a piece of electrical tape on the leg that I use.
