Lets say that I have a carrier from a 14b with a detroit in it, and I need to take the detroit out. i've heard that the springs will cause the halves to jump apart.
how violent of a jump are we talking here?

i know brand new detroits come with the stick of all thread and some washers thru the middle, but I don't have any of that laying around. broke til tuesday, so i dont wanna buy any either.

can i get by without anything, or should i stick the axleshafts or a wire loop or somethin thru the middle to keep the parts in place?

thanks

You have to have the washers to grab the side gears. Yeah, you are right it will come completely apart. Couple of washers, piece of threaded rod, and a couple of wing nuts, 5 bucks maybe?
