I had a bit a search but can't find anything specific. I am doing the Mini-Truck DBC on my cruiser and will overhaul the knuckles a the same time. Which rebuild kit should I get - Hilux or Cruiser? Is their any difference in the pivot bearings?
Cheers

fj60 and hilux knuckle rebuild kits should be the same. They are in the kits from MAF, and MAF gets those kits from Oz. OEM knuckle seals work better than those provided in the kit.

Yes, they are. All the same, HiLux from '79-85, FJ/BJ40 '80-86, FJ60/62 '80-'90. Part number 04434-61102 (this is the seal kit).

because of the steer arm change, you will want a kit for the hi-lux or later model cruiser, like FJ60. i dont know about OZ, but here the hi-lux parts are the least expensive, so thats what i run.
however the felts and gaskets for the ball knuckle seals are the same for all toys.

CCOT just got some Knuckle kits in. I was out there last week and they had Japanese Bearings and Toyota gaskets.
$99.
Fine kit...

I rebuilt an 82 Mini axle to swap in for the solid axle conversion I did a few weeks back.
The one I got was from JToutfitters(.com) - kinda pricey at $200, but it included a 54mm socket, *ALL* the bearings, inner and outer seals, gaskets for the locking hub face, spindle, and what-not, shims, and anything else I'm fogetting - including grease. They knocked it down to $185 cuz I already had the hub socket. Here's a pic of the whole thing... ignore the All-Pro springs and the FJ40 rotors for the vented rotor conversion:

You *can* get a kit for about $95 from Randys R&P, or All-Pro, or whereeve. But I wanted to do the wheel bearings, too. Try finding 4 quality wheel bearings for $100.
The grease was the good red stuff. Not the black crap that tuns into soup whien it touches water/90wt.
Knuckle bearings were all SKF.
Wheel bearings (2 inner, 2 outer) were Timkens.
Also, while doing the knuckle rebuild I'd recommend degreasing the knuckles, slapping on some JB-weld, and sanding them good and smooth. Mine are smooth as cue balls now, and the seals should last quite a while:

After sanding:

Thanks again - I really appreciate this; just two more questions.
1. What is JB weld - is it some sort of epoxy based filler?
2. Will the Hilux drive shaft seals ( the ones that keep the 90wt away from the grease) fit into my Cruiser axle housings?
Cheers

JB-Weld is an epoxy type material thats meant to bond metal to metal, for what he used it for, it would seem to be a good deal, as bondo or the like would never hold up or last.
Yes, the inner seals for the mini truck are the same as for a Landcruiser (68-85).
