: Weekend report 1/28-29
Snoopy 01-28-2006, 04:17 PM My weekend sucks. I'm sitting at home watchin' kids. All the babysitters are out doing something and can't rescue me. I started mounting Rusty's ram yesterday. I'm not 100% with the placement, as the ram is definately NOT centered, but what can ya do ~ I don't want to make a tube truss from one end to the other. Just doesn't work with what I did with the axle mounts. I think I'm going to remove the tracbar mount on the frame and move it backwards a bit.
I'm not 100% on it, but I want to get Rusty done sometime this year.:shaking:
johnnyx 01-28-2006, 04:18 PM Did nothin'... I'm sitting in the Portland Airport as I type this. :)

He's definately not one of your "fans". :D
I threw a battery into the 200, poured in some gas and a little ether, and cranked & cranked. No worky. Checked and have spark at the points and plug wires. Poured in some antifreeze and heard it pouring out. Thinking the worst, crawled underneath and found the infamous rusted freeze plug, (add that to the list). Tomorrow, I'm pulling the plugs, fuel pump, and carb. Gonna put a couple of hours into it before I bring the kids into town to get a b'day gift for mom. :smokin:
installationsplus 01-28-2006, 06:35 PM Well that sucks!!!! Hank.
chris408 01-28-2006, 06:59 PM Fixed misc. busted gaskets/seals...

More like this CENTURY!!! :flipoff2:
GET IT DONE........... Tom. :D
I am just installing my stereo and alarm system and new shifter and trans tunnel cover and agitating the Pirate crew. :) I do like this alarm system so far and will give an opinion of it after awhile. It also has paging capabilities.
installationsplus 01-28-2006, 08:08 PM Rolled her out of the garage(first time in 3 mo.), thought I'd take advantage of the 50 deg.+ weather and preasure wash the Scout up. Turned out to be just to nice out, ended up just cruising from bar to friggin bar. Hank. :grinpimp:
MochaMike 01-28-2006, 08:25 PM Welp, school starts again Tuesday, so it's the end of my 6 weeks of freedom.
Most of the Scout work is done during the week (weather permitting).
Wife had a baby shower today, so I had the kids all day (including a kiddie party).
This week I borrowed a friends plasma cutter & had fun.:D
First off, I fabbed up new motor mounts.
I have a plate/saddle mount on the engine, which were attached to the stock mounts... I cut the old ones out, & fabbed up new mounts that are similar to shackle hangers in design (bushing with a bolt through it).
Fabbed a simple welding cart.
Next I cut off the my rocker guards, & then cut 5-6" off my rockers out (rusted anyways).
I'm re-designing my original plan, which was to use the old 2x4" 1/4" box.
I think I'll do 3/8" think 4" angle. I'll add some tube like this as well....
Similar to the ones on this heep.

I worked on the patio and nursed a hang over from the B-day celebration that included myself and a 12 pack. Ordered my AutoMeter gauges today as well.
Tommorrow, I need to hose the fire extinguisher dust out of the Scout from last weekends "mishap"

I miss snow wheeling.
Urban Wheeler 01-29-2006, 12:37 PM Worked for "the man". Stupid weekend hours.
Stopped by my buddy's shop to see how his latest project is coming along. It's not quite finished yet. I wanted a pic with the seats and fender flares on, I guess that won't be for another week or so. Front seats, rear seat, and rear rear seat will all be upholstered to match the paint. Yes, there will be two back seats, the rearmost on a riser. He wants it to drive people around on his ranch is Texas. Something about Japanese visitors on his japansese cow ranch, he wasn't very clear about it.

scoutkid 01-29-2006, 03:21 PM The question i must ask is: was it a real SSII?
Oh, all i did was work in the shop and go 'boarding today.
SSGTWC 01-29-2006, 06:28 PM Finished a bunch of crap this past week.
Finalized the tranny swap, rear main seal, dynamat the fire wall job. It sure is nice to have a fully synchronised (sp) tranny goin down the raod now. Takes a little getting used to only using 3 gears now. Also found the exhaust leak.

Got the 205 out of the Kerosene, and into the parts washer. I need to finish getting it cleaned up, and reseal it.

Today I did the under body inspection of the Scout. Discovered a fuel vent line detached form the tank, explaining the fuel leak when fueling it up. But pretty much typical shit that needs to be replaced i.e.....u-joints and such. The body mount bushings are toast which leads to why the right rear sags so much. Then found the left body mount to have a little bit of cancer. After that, I went out to help some fellow binder heads insult a new shop.

Looks like the frame is cracked at the spring hanger also???
Diesel Smoke 01-30-2006, 10:38 AM Saturday:74 pickup work: Bought some cheap used Ford wheels and had my tires put on them, then got home and found I had the WRONG wheel studs:mad3:. So, I drove all over town and hunted down the correct studs. I bouth all that he had on had and ordered some more, they'll be in this afternoon. I did get one front disc done, I should be able to start reassembly of the front soon.
Sunday: Went to my Dad's cousins house to pick up an inlaid coffee table with my sister. My Dad's cousin is building them again, and made one for my sister as she helped him test finishes. Had a very nice visit with my sister, she's doing well and by August I'll be an Uncle:confused:  !! Before she left I started in on a killer migraine, that knocked me out until about 8 o'clock. I haven't had one this bad in a long time. I took drugs, but they were no help, oh well, I am still alive.

I went INSIDE of a Harbor Freight store for the first time..
So were you impressed by the quality and price of the tools ?
Those Chinese sure can build the huh ?

LOL.
Spent ~$150 there.. but half of that was a buddy's.. he really wanted a 12T HF pipe-kinker and didn't want to borrow my JD2..
Otherwise, it was quality HF stuff.. magnetic welding angles, magnetic pick-up tool, cheap 4.5 grinder (for wire-wheel duty), an assortment of hose-clamps, a welding blanket..
Things that are hard to screw up. :D
MochaMike 01-30-2006, 01:44 PM So were you impressed by the quality and price of the tools ?

Actually, if you buy the right stuff, you get a good bargain...
I stay away from high-end tools...
I bought a $30 250lb Impact gun & $20 sockets 3 years ago & all are still working fine after LOTS of use.
Can't be beat for cheap drill bits (I spent $8 online for 40 1/8" for work) and 10 packs of cut off wheels & grinder wheels.
Most recent good finds were:
6" Angle magnet $2
Tool bag $5 (for my rig)
6 pack of work gloves $6.50
14 open/box wrench set $10 (for toolbag/rig)
Paint sprayer $16
6 Socket holder sets 6x $.50= $3 (for toolbag/rig)
For a grand total of $45.57.
I think I'm going to return the sprayer though (got the wrong one).
binderbound 01-30-2006, 01:57 PM I wrenched. See TracTracTor thread.
scout_on_38s 01-30-2006, 02:27 PM Saturday got my new tcase mounts welded in. Sunday loaded the 1ton axles on a trailer to take them to the shop. Starting the swap this week. Motor is getting close to being finished. Still need new distributor and some bracket stuff. Should have it ready to go in when the axle swap is finished up.
SSGTWC 01-30-2006, 02:37 PM Looks like the frame is cracked at the spring hanger also???
Yep sure enough Bill! Took a look at it again this afternoon, and it pretty well chewed under there. It seems to be a PO farm repair  :shaking:
I'll fix it when I get around to the SOA.
Sand73 01-30-2006, 08:22 PM went to Mexico- sketchiest trip of my life! tj at 10 at night :barf:
ih4ever 01-30-2006, 08:32 PM well i found out that i had a brake leak in the front line, so i had to cut my old metal line and re flare it, now it seems to be working just fine.... who knows how long i was just driving with rear drums:eek:  especially with a 5k lbs vehicle.
Brandon 01-30-2006, 09:06 PM changed the oil and tranny fluid in my new $400 scout 2. Inspected brakes and greased up stuff etc.
fair bit o metal in the tranny, hoping it doesn't slip now but we'll see..
It's weird, only does it on turns..
sold my 1210 tow rig. worked on my scout a bit. finished the new rear suspention and almose am done welding the front up. next week is mounting the hydro steer box and hopefully putting in the doubler.
Did you get them to take that trailer load of truck parts along with it? If so your neighbors will be glad:D I guess you won't need that extra rust free hood I have.
Had to work both Sat. and Sun. Hope to post some progress pic's this coming weekend.
james west 02-04-2006, 03:20 PM last weekend i got more tube done...seats mounted...axle mocked up...heres an overview http://independent4x.com/generic64.html
