: Soft Top Questions...

I'm going to need a soft top for my FJ-40 during the winter since I have to drive it 7 miles to school and after having my cage done I'm not sure if it will fit.
The cage sits about 3 inches about the windshield frame. What brand softtops do you guys run, and would they fit? How do they attatch, snaps or a railing system? I would also like 2-piece soft doors since I do not have any doors...and if you have any pictures of your top installed, or layed down on the cruiser please post those too....
thanks

I dunno...I've got Spector's tiger top on mine, and it sits up *really* high. It clears my cage, and that comes up a little over the top of the windshield...

See if you can find someone who's got one of those, and do a test-fit.

You might have to have a custom built one like said above. Here is and example... Although it is a bad one!!! Should run about a grand at a boat canvas maker.

You Don't like my project rig..... BWAAAAA HAAAAAA HAAAAAA Do you know how hard it was to cut that diamond plate in a perfect circle to fit in the wheels... Geesh.....:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Well, I was looking throug my picts of custom tops and that was the first I found. It was either that or that god AWFUL OD canvas softop over the hardtop on the WW2 Lancruiser replica LMAO. I never said it was a good top :) Plus... thought ya needed a laugh. The grand would be for a nice one... but you might have to build a Full cage. Another Option you might think about is getting one of the extreme Bikini tops and running the soft doors from Specialty tops. Not completely sealed from the elements... but better than nothing.

Another option would be to lower your cage. I'm prob. wrong as I've been :smokin: but I think I read in a different post that your cage is bolted to the tub. If so you could pull your cage, cut it down 3" (or whatever it needs to be), weld new plates on the bottom, and slap it back in. Shouldn't take more than an afternoon. PITA, yes but you'd be able to run any soft (or hard) top you wanted and not have to fork out $800 to $1000 for a custom top.

Just my $.02

The soft top might clear the roll bar, but the problem you will have is with the support bars that run from side to side...These provide upper support of the top...I know from experience that with a modified cage you gonna have fun trying to get it to fit, if at all!
Plus in my opinion-soft tops are a major PITA!!!!!! Hard tops suck also...I have never had one that fit right...
Just drive fast, so you don't get wet....and wear warm clothes...It will make a man out of you...............:D :skull:

All that diamond plate cruiser needs in a 50 caliber mounted in the back, and it would be bitchen. Ok now the top question. A tiger top might fit since the middle bow extends about three inches above a stock roll bar. Pretty expense to buy and then find out it would not fit. ONe other question Any chance of getting a picture of the bottom mount one your cage at the floor boards? Noticed the bend around the knee area and would like to see how it is for clearance at the pedals.

Peabody...my cage is mounted to the frame, I have thought about cutting it down some, but then I'd have to cut off the seat mount and the bar across the dash and have all of that crap redone...major PITA...

I have a friend that has a Spector Tiger Top, and might see if he'll put it on his FJ so I can measure it and see how tight it fits...will spector let you return the soft top if it doesen't fit?

Plowboy...Here is the only picture of what you are asking for...I don't really have any pedal clearance issues and I'm 6'4...although I feel rather close to the pedals. I am mounting my new seats now though, and it sits farther back, and feels real comfortable now. When my brother sends me back the digital camera I'll take a few more pictures of it for you and of the new seats...
Thanks

Didn't you have canvas top land cruisers in Pakistan? It's the same design as in the US. Have some made and you'll have buyers on this board.

Shane, did you ever get the project off the ground

That sounds good, but I think I'm going to go with a Spector Summer Extreme Top...and get some soft doors to go with it. That will hopefully keep me dry and somewhat warm...
Thanks for your help...
