so heres the situation: i am in the middle of a tracker 5.13 gera swap and am gettign ready to do the rear end. my original plan was to swap tracekr gears into sammi carriers w/ lok rights at both ends, but now i have a good deal on going wiht a hybrid rear end. i know this will allow me to run the stronger tracker rear gears in the rear so im thinkin i can save some $$$ and just weld the rear, putting a lok right in the front. i am running 32's right now, so i have two question

1) will a hybrid rear with a welded 3rd be strong enough to take most of the abuse 32's will give it?
2) what are my options as far as lockers for a tracker 3rd?

I've personally have had very good luck running welded rear's on my sami. I had the very set up your thinking about, only with 33's for over a year and didn't have a single problem (31's before that for over 2 years).
NOW, my sami dosen't see a LOT of road miles, but it does see some. I'm planning on running a welded rear in my Toy axles as well.

if you weld it right you will be fine.......

The sammy lock right will work in a kick diff. Got that locker in my hybrid axle with 33's. Been running it on trails and as a daily driver for more than 5 years.

I lock righted my jeep for years of street and off road driving practically every day. go with a locker. even on the trail, if you have so much grip that you force the locker to unlock, then you obviously don't need to be locked right then, and why not free up some driveline bind(a lot) and some horsepower when you can? plus it's really cool to hear it racheting. just drive gently on the street.

If you drive on road much i'd go with a locker. I've had both, and i prefer the locker for street use, and tread life.

I have my toy rear welded. On the street it is fine, plus it is VERY predictable. It ALWAYS promotes under-steer. Had lockers with the stock axles and they would sometimes cause "quirks" when turning. You don't want quirks in an 86" wheelbase rig.

locker is only unpredictable when i forget i have it, and try to hammer into a left turn from a light, or jump into a space in a parking lot, etc. i wouldn't drive a welded rear on the street. it will easily drain you of the cost of a locker in gas $ and tire wear. at least lockers give you the option of driving easy in rain and snow, welded only has one setting- slip 'n slide.

I guess it all depends on where you live and how much you drive it. Mine is strictly a toy, I only drive it when I want to.

I put the kick 3rds into my Samurai axle. I'm running 32" tires (swampers).

So far I've twisted the kick housing (3rd) in half (posted video). So I put the gears into my Samurai steel housing. Now I'm ripping the spring perches off my axle tubes.

I guess it's time for D44's. I don't even wheel that hard.

Do you have a Suzuki or a jeep? Every post I've read of yours you say jeep.
