: My Vortec FJ62 what to do?
RustyNailJustin 01-29-2006, 04:06 PM Well I bought this 89 FJ62 from a kid in Salt lake for pretty cheep. Specs are...
-98 Vortec
-700R4
-SOA
-Marlin highsteer and arms
-35 MTRs on black rockcrawlers
-ARB
-extra 3rd member
-Rear aussi sliders
-And pretty much spair every thing interior from his rolled FJ62, door pannels, perfect dash, switch pannels, rear hatch and tailgate, ect.
I bought it to fix it up and just have a driver for myself not put the miles on my tow rig. I knew it needed some work but it might be more than I want to mess with right now. It runs and drives but needs some loving, THings are pretty riged up nothing was done quite "right". Body is pretty good other than the pass rear quarter it need some rust cut out and bondo removed. Need a paint job to look good.
I am not sure what to do.
1.Sell it for what I got in it
2.Fix it and drive it.
3.Part it out. I could make a little extra money if I went this rout, for my FJ40s.
What do you guys think?

COLOCRUISER 01-29-2006, 04:50 PM I think you should just part it out...because if you don't want to put the time in it right now, when are you. Don't let it just sit forever and let it go to waste. There are probably alot of parts that could make other cruisers happy. Just my humble opinion
Jason M 01-29-2006, 05:30 PM Sell me the hood for $50 ;)
60seriesguy 01-29-2006, 07:19 PM With that fender, parting it out will be the best deal, I think.
For starters, I'll take the four wheels and tires! :)
dieselcruiserhead 01-29-2006, 07:23 PM cool, I was wondering where that would end up. I think it'd be a pretty badass DDer/camping rig, sorta like everything your 60 used to be back in the day, right? Those tires sure look familiar ;) , I think I sold them to him for $150 for all 4... Nice and bald, right? :)
89s rule 01-29-2006, 10:00 PM well the 1/4 is preatty rough. Looks like an overall decent rig.
I am curious to what gears it has as I am looking to upgrade my 3rds. So If you do part let me know about them.
orangefj45 01-30-2006, 12:59 AM parting out a rig is just as much work as fixing it.
spend the few hours fixing it up and DD that biatch. then you can always sell it for a few bucks more than you paid for it if it's not what you want it to be....
Greg_Canada 01-30-2006, 07:45 AM Looks like a driver to me... i cant use any parts off it so to the parts junkie :flipoff2: keep it...
orangefj45 01-30-2006, 10:27 AM i've parted out a few rigs but my guidelines are normally that it either has to have a lot of rust of be a non driver that would take too much time and effort to get running. this is a running and driving rig so it would almost be a shame to bone it out.

Not really. I can trade the histeer to my brother and he will take it apart and sell stuff for me.
ranger 01-30-2006, 01:00 PM Sell it if your not going to fix it. Parting out a good cruiser is a waste, like cutting up a decent 40 to make a tube abomination.
The quarter is not that bad, seen worse.
sixty 01-30-2006, 01:36 PM Part it, I need a heater knob... :D
I would fix it & drive it. it should not be too much work to get it running & would make a decent driver to take some mileage off your tow rig.

Its not the quarter that scares me, I laugh at that part its the how so much stuff on this thing is done so "not right" I would spend countless hours fixing stupid stuff. I just bought it cause it was so cheep I could not pass it up I knew I could get my money back if I wanted to.
coyote 01-30-2006, 06:56 PM more details...350 or 4.3....how many miles...a/c....
RustyNailJustin 01-30-2006, 09:41 PM 350 with ac. THe block and heads are GM crate acording to the PO with all the vortec stuff bolted on. He said he had put 15K on the new motor. Not sure of miles on the tranny but it works perfect.

Its no worries as far as being in the rigged condition its in. Like I said, I bought it for dirt cheep, did not really want a 62 project just could not pass it up being so cheep. My FJ40s keep me very busy and take all my money anyways:D
I just thought it may be an easy fixer-upper daily driver. Needs a lot of love to be in that condition.
Most stuff is easy fixins, like mounting things correctly if you guys saw how the fuel pump, air box, tranny cooler were mounted you would laugh, its just very very jerry rigged. Granted I did buy it from a highschool kid:D
wes8517 01-31-2006, 01:13 PM give it to me, ill spend the time to fix it up for myself and then ill have somethin to wheel.....that would work well, you wouldnt have to look at it in the condition its in, and you wouldnt have to fix the problems. just write it off as a charitable donation for your taxes next year and all will be well
but in real life, fix it up then sell it, spend a little time on it and youll get a lot more money outta it im sure
