: Rear Fenderwell Cuts
FIXXXXAH 03-30-2002, 05:53 PM Ok, so i have to cruiser torn apart, and im getting ready to paint her up. im going to cut my rocker panels and my rear fenders before the paint so that it comes out clean. i'm also going to flip my rear springs in the SOA after i paint her. so my question is, can i just go ahead and use the fender flares as a template, move it back 3" from the stock position to accomodate the spring flip, and cut? will everything line up right later when i get her back together on a SOA? just dont want to fly in and mess up... almost did, i was going to cut them im the STOCK position, glad a remembered the spring flip moves the axle back:eek: that would have been ugly. think the 3" back cut should be fine?
Thanks, Matt
oh yeh dave, got the fender flares, thanks:D
Polarweasel 03-30-2002, 07:09 PM Fender flares?!?!? We don't need no steenkeeng fender flares! :p
Peabody 03-30-2002, 09:26 PM Get out the masking tape and make a curve you like. Remember, the more you cut, the better you feel. Ditch the flares and all will be good with the world. :D
Land Crusher 03-30-2002, 09:59 PM why are you going to cut the rocker panels ??
I guess for clearance.
:(
you might want to look at some
jeep flairs for the rear they are a little
biger.
just dont do any thing yet !!!!!!
because I am shure you will get some more
advise wait untell at least the middle of
the weak.
FIXXXXAH 03-30-2002, 10:51 PM Hey, i didnt just dish out $25 to have them collect dust :D. id rather have the flares than just a flat fender back there. I'm cutting the rocker panels so that i get more clearance, they already have cancer starting on them, and im not digging the aluminumn diamond plate on there now. im going to bolt up some 2" angle iron and call her good. you can hilift off it too.
Matt:)
FIXXXXAH 03-31-2002, 05:26 PM Come on, someone help me out here, need to know what to do, i KNOW there are guys out there running reversed springs with fender flares, so someone let me know...
Matt:(
Jason M 03-31-2002, 05:49 PM I initally cut mine for 32" tires and the specter UB40 flares. Then I did a spring flip with the same tires. Cut again. Reposition the flares and it worked out okay. Then I did a springover and went to 36" tires. Cut and reposition the flares again (same flares) fit was fine. Then I went to 38's. the spector flares were just too small for those tires. So I went to TJ flares. Hogged the hell out of the fenders and they fit perfently with the 38's.
WHat flares are you planning on using?
FIXXXXAH 03-31-2002, 06:41 PM I think they are the fj40 Duraflares from specter, thats what they look like, i bought them from rabid, so im not sure. how did you cut so many times? im using the inside of the flare as a template to cut, so i woulnt have a lip, or any space left over to move them....
Matt
nuclearlemon 03-31-2002, 07:09 PM i've got flipped springs, but no flares...don't like them...they break/rip off too easy.
i used the existing front edge of the fender, just cut higher up and farther back.
wngrog 03-31-2002, 07:33 PM Clearanced for 42's with '55 springs.

God your cruiser looks good on those 42's nolen....
Okay, the first time I cut my fenders I was using the rear spector diamond plate for a reference. Which kept the flares really far forward. The second time I cut the fenders was for the spring flip. I was able to move the flares up slightly and bend them outwards for room. The third time I did the So and needed more room. I reduced the back fender lip (where the body drops down after the taillights) and cut the kick panels (under the door) that allowed me to move the flares up a couple of inches. which was just enough for the 36's The 38's don't fit all that well with the small Spector flares :D
Position your flares and cut last. Get your springs/axle position confirmed first then reference your flare to the wheel. Don't worry about the new paint, just be careful when you cut. Besides, your cut line will be hidden by the flare. You can hit it with some touch up when you're done. I know you said you already have 40 flares but the TJ flares are sweet. I opened alot of wheel well when I put the TJ's on...Just an idea to put in your head:D Good luck!
