: Hard Lesson Learned
rebellc72 03-30-2002, 06:39 PM Been a member on this board for almost a year now. Not many posts, mostly use the "search" button. I started a body-off resto about 9 mos ago. My partner (my wife) and I took the cruzer for the 1st test run yesterday. Dont know WTF happened, was only doing around 30 mph when it took a hard left, did a 180 and almost rolled over!! The rear end came up 4 ft. and threw me out . Anyway, 2 broken ribs and a broken thumb and I still love this $hit. Wife is ok, still laughing at my crazy ass.
I have never posted my LC specs or pics before ('71 FJ40, 350 and turbo 350 conversion, 4" suspension lift and 3" body lift, 35x17x50 MT's, homemade roll cage and nerf bars) Thanks for all the help you guys have given. I have some before and so-far pics if someone will post them for me.
Happy Bunny Day!!

Polarweasel 03-30-2002, 06:48 PM Glad you're OK -- or at least alive, and laughing about it! Sounds like seatbelts might oughta be next on your list, though.
Oh, yeah: thumbs outside the steering wheel! :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Jettech 03-30-2002, 08:00 PM was only doing around 30 mph when it took a hard left
So "it" took a hard left(on it's own) or "you" took a hard left??
ROCK HUGGER 03-30-2002, 08:11 PM More details.
What kind of suspension, steering, etc.
Did something break?
Peabody 03-30-2002, 09:21 PM Ya, any details; broken tie rod, driver error, cursed steering box? Seat belts would be a good thing to think about but I'm sure your wife has pointed that out to ya. Glad to hear all is ok.
BTW, :flipoff2: welcome newbie. :D
35x17x50 MT's
Now them's some big wheels! :D
ranger 03-30-2002, 10:49 PM Were you on the sauce!
I would HIGHLY recommend wearing a seatbelt if you would like to stay with the living!
Remember your driving a shortbased vehicle, they are not designed for sharp fast turns....30 mph might not seem fast but when you go into a turn your dealing with different forces....
I would have to say you learned a valuable lesson, the hard way!:skull:
rebellc72 03-31-2002, 06:36 AM Yeah, definately should have had the belts on, just planning to back it out of my shop to do some cleaning. Decided to take my wife for a spin up the driveway and well you know the rest of the story. As of now I am still running drum brakes and have sloppy steering. That all will be changing soon.
Really don't know what happened. When I applied the brakes it darted hard to the left.
Big DW 03-31-2002, 08:24 AM Funny you should say that...when I drove my 40 for the first time...it took a hard left when I applied the brakes as well...but I kind of expected anything could happen with a vehicle that sat for almost 20 years...the wheel cylinders on drum brakes get all mucked up...I suspect that that was your problem...I took the cylinders apart and cleaned them and then I adjusted them...they will work until I swap them out for mini disc conversion...Guess your excitement to drive your 40 for the first time momentarily relieved you of your senses...:smokin: ...good luck and I hope your ribs heal real quick, so your ready for your next run...
welcome......:flipoff2:
BJ On Roids 04-01-2002, 07:01 PM email me the pics

and ill put them up.......so you were drving down the road and gassed it...it spun out and nearly flipped over throwing you out?
welded rear by chance?
with my locker on and gassing it, it throws sideways VERY quick, it's fun when you are used to it, and can scare your passengers!!
ive seen cars roll onto people that got flung out, and, let me recommend bucket seats and harnesses, it will do severe damage to your body (decapitation)
Bob B 04-01-2002, 08:22 PM Have you thought about the rodeo. If it does not allow an 8 second ride it has potenial "Wild Bull Cruiser":D
Mr McGee 04-01-2002, 08:53 PM strange, all your cruisers dart to the left....mine only darts right :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
rebellc72 04-02-2002, 08:29 AM Thanks bj-42 Im sending you a couple of pics. Its not a serious rock crawler but it is a lot of fun ! Here in MS theres not many rocks, and I do hate mud!!
